What the heck is nerd music? To be honest, I was really just going more for the joke in the title. Never actually seen the film or heard the concert. I've heard good things, though. But, yeah, I like all music. Except modern country.
I'm honestly not that afraid of Lee and the Rangers or Minny without Morneau. I'm worried about Tampa Bay. And while the 85 people who show up for the game will be 50% Yankees fans, it's still their turf, including that god awful roof. I put stock in home field advantage.
Why is home field advantage no big advantage? Another article And another breakdown here Hope you don't put too much stock in it.
We aren't discussing injured players, we're discussing whether to rest our uninjured starters citing "fatigue", at least that was my assumption. Play our starters if they're healthy, we can win the division. I expect Girardi to field the B team, though, an example of his occasional over-analysis.
But "injured" is not a black and white issue, dude. Swisher and Tex are both healthy enough to play, as we've seen. But they're also playing with a bum knee, and a broken toe/bruised thumb, respectively. Is the division so important that you don't want them as healthy as possible for the playoffs? The same probably goes for Jeter, A-Rod, and to a lesser extent Cano (who hasn't had a game off since July, I think). They might not be injured, but I could almost guarantee you that the aches and pains our 36-year-old SS is undoubtedly feeling are a factor in his general lack of productivity this season. Think it might be a good idea to let him have a few days off before the truly important games start? You said we should "go for the kill." I'm trying to get a handle on what that means to you. I took that to mean you'd want them in the lineup every game, since the team is (obviously) better with them in there. Here's the bottom line: The Rays are playing the Royals, have the tiebreaker vs. the Yanks, and are unlikely to lose 2 of 3. That means the Yanks need to sweep to have a decent shot at the division. Sitting the regulars for even one game probably lowers your chances of sweeping the Sox. Now, I'm pretty sure Girardi wasn't planning on trotting out the AAA lineup every night... but I wouldn't be surprised if he gave a few guys some rest, especially if they're a game back going into tomorrow's or Sunday's game. Is that "not going for the kill"? Is that a bad move?
They just brought the tarp back on the field, so I'm guessing not. KC is beating the Rays 7-0 right now.
Again, my stance is that if a player is not hurt Girardi should play him because we can win the division. Swisher and Teixiera are hurt, we sit them. No problem. I also understand switching the rotation to set it up for the playoffs. As far as we know Granderson, Gardner, Kearns, Thames, Jeter, Cano, Posada and Berkman are not hurt, let's play them and win the division, that's what I mean by 'go for the kill'. I like when the NYY play at home, their record is better at home. Is there not a two day break in between the final reg season game and Gm 1? That's two days off for everyone.
never mind how we handled minny in the postseason last year. however, for me, its more about winning the division than it is securing HFA. yeah yeah i know it doesnt mean shit when it comes to the postseason but i FUCKING HATE losing to a bullshit franchise like the rays.
Yankees idle their way back into first place. Maybe if the entire post-season is washed-out, they'll repeat as champs!
Okay, well that's fine. Then we agree on that, mostly, and I don't think Girardi would be approaching it much differently, although I think the doubleheader today might mean that Jeter/A-Rod/Posada probably only play in one game. I just wouldn't have called what you're talking about "going for the kill." The only other thing I would mention is that, after a 150-some-odd games, I can guarantee you that Jeter, Cano, and Posada are injured in some way... hell, everyone is... just not injured enough to not play. That's practically a given. Rest is helpful. And we know Gardner has been playing with a sore thumb, too. I don't know how old you are, but you ever feel like a two-day weekend isn't enough to recover from a five-day work week? It gets harder as you get older, too. And this is a very talented, but also fairly old team.
