Lowery doesn't suck... he's just more adept at playing nickel/dime/added Safety... he has his role on this team... it's just not that of a CB playing on the outside. Rex needs versatility from his DBs...

exactly, lowery doesnt play well on the outside. coleman is shockingly better than him there but didnt coleman fall on his face and allow polite to turn a 3 yard gain into an 11 yard gain? he didnt play well last game
He's the same guy who has been terrible for 9,997/10,000 plays in his career. 2 of the good plays came in last game.
Coleman will be fine. Cromartie will be in single coverage on Lee Evans all day, leaving Coleman and a safety on Roscoe Parrish. I realize Parrish is fast, but he's unlikely to do damage if you leave Coleman underneath and put a safety up top. I'd rather have Wilson inside. He'll either man up on Johnson or he'll help to contain Spiller when they send him into the slot. Besides, who would you rather have tackling inside? I don't even think Buffalo HAS a receiver averaging more than 3 catches per game.

So because Wilson is better than Coleman at nickel, Rex decided to give Coleman more snaps? Why not start Wilson and move him inside when we go nickel? Although I rather start Lowery over Coleman, I like the move. Nickel CBs play less press coverage, which as I've stated in previous threads, Wilson has been struggling with. In the nickel you are forced to play more off man since the slot WR is usually off the LOS. Wilson has been excellent playing off man.
The term "starters" don't mean much in Rex's D. It's all situational. Wilson will get a ton of snaps this game regardless.
Coleman is being rewarded for some clutch plays. Good for him. Coleman is the one that put a great hit on Faulk in the NE game as he was trying to get to the outside. In fact that was the hit that might have ended his career. I have noticed Coleman tackling better. Coleman has had a clutch play or two in every game so far this year. He had a couple against the Ravens, Pats and obviously against the Fins. Maybe just maybe, he doesn't suck as much as we thought. Wilson has been playing the slot well. Not too mention he has been playing the TE very well. So keep him there for now. I don't think this is a demotion as much as Coleman is getting a promotion.
The biggest reason is that Rex likes some versatility. Giving coleman snaps outside helps with disguising coverages in the future. Makes the blitzes a lot more deadly.
Maybe that's true for other positions on the defense but I'm pretty certain that the 2 "starters" at CB will get significantly more playing time than the nickel back.
Wilson got tons of snaps in the Baltimore game. There are tons of 3 WR sets in today's NFL and Rex loves having lots of DB's on the field.
The mental speed of the game seems like it could be too much for Wilson right now. I think it would be putting way too much on his plate to ask Wilson to play corner in 2 WR sets and then drop down to the nickel spot when the Bills go to 3 or 4 WR sets. The Bills do not have a good passing attack. Coleman might be able to get through the game without embarrassing himself. I find him to at least be adequate in run support. Having Coleman on the field and Wilson on the sideline on obvious passing downs is something that I like for this game against the Bills.
At the end of the day...If the outcome of this game depends on the play of Drew Coleman two things are true. Holdoutboy really is a douchebag and We aren't that good anyway. Personally...I think we are that good.
