I think it is too soon to really kill that team yet, their schedule is still easy and their offensive line is extremely young, 2 rookies and a 2nd year player is tough to start with even with a Frank Gore, and it didn't help that they are turnover prone. The whole deal with Alex Smith (spread QB) and Frank Gore (power RB) and the conflicting offensive identity is a terrible situation though and has to be solved before they can go anywhere.
Smith isn't bad by any stretch. He has no wr and no protection, so even Aaron Rodgers would be fucked if he was there. I'm not saying he is great, but he has had a revolving door of OC, not a single WR worth a roster spot and an anemic OL. Notice how good he is when Vernon Davis is on his game and catching balls? He's got the ability, but all the ability in the world dosen't change the fact that he's been fucked over by that shit ownership and managment group.
I agree. Smith is the victim of a bad organization. His situation in Frisco reminds me of Drew Brees in San Diego. IMO, if Smith were traded to a better team, like Denver for example, he would become a star.
I can't believe the niners fell off so much. They looked like an up and coming team last year. The wheels have come off.
Now now, let's not over state it. He's got the tools to become a very good NFL QB, but I don't know about a "star".
It's difficult to predict Smith's potential as long as he's with a disfunctional team like the 49ers. He has shown flashes of tremendous potential. Look at how many QBs have floundered with a bad team for years and then when they got a chance with a better team, they played great.
^^^ Smith has flashed potential but I'm not seeing stardom yet. Matt Ryan went to a very dysfunctional Atlanta Falcon team and acheived something no other QB has ... back to back winning seasons.
True, but at the same time Atlanta brought in a good coach, a great running back, and an improved defense. They built something around Ryan, which the 49ers have been unwilling or unable to do for Smith. As much as I think that Mike Florio should go fuck himself, I have to admit that I like his theory that San Fran will keep Singletary around just because nobody has the balls to fire him to his face.
Put your big Cross in your shirt you militant Tony Dungy loving religous nut. The NFl does not have the balls to tell him to keep it to himself
kind of the way they don't have the balls to tell the players to keep their prayers to themselves and off the field.
About 28 teams would kill to play in the NFC West. It's pathetic that a talented team like the 49ers can't win it when they're going up against teams led by a journeyman, an old man, and a rookie.
Not even close. Herm's problem was that he was too nice a guy, so the players tuned him out. Singletary's problem is that he's a rageaholic who thinks that screaming and dropping his pants is a substitute for coaching. It's more like Tom Coughlin - coaching ability = Mike Singletary.
I wondered how long it would be before the late night comediens got into the act. Singletary's press conferences are good material for jokes. I'm looking forward to his next bombastic tirade. :breakdance:
