Very good post, he was not the only one costing us yards, the right side had a couple of penalties that pushed us back also. Mark had a good game because of the time he was given, Slauss needs to improve his run blocking but over all he is a C+ right now, let him get comfortable and he will minimize his mistakes. :breakdance:
As much as I got mad with Slauson during the game I agree the best thing to do is let him get some chemistry along the O-line. Plus He's faced the Ravens and the Dolphins, two pretty good rushing teams, and the Pats, who have a solid DL. All in all he had only one stupid penalty, the other one on the TD was a gift to the Dolphins by the refs. He also blocked the wrong man in the occasion of an early LT run but I guess that happens... And for the first time he didn't let anyone through to get Sanchez killed. All in all he's done ok I guess... cut back on the penalties and he'll be a capable LG.
Good post. I agree with your middle of the road position. I did not vote in the poll. I haven't seen enough of Slauson to be real comfortable with him, and obviously we have seen even less of Vlad. I have no reason to think Vlad would be doing any better. I also get the points made about the holding calls being questionable at best. But... he had the procedure penalty, too, and imo those holding calls were not both as crummy as some here seem to believe. Still I think leaving Slauson in there might end up being the best approach for now, giving the OL a chance to play more as a unit. I just hope he cuts down on the penalties.
I was so pissed at Slauson last night, kid draws too many penalties.. BUT Vlad the impalor isn't ready..
Is it like Slauson is going to get worse with more experience? No. Relax. Overall, in a big game on the road against an aggressive defense, for a guy starting only his third game? Not bad. Maybe not great but not as bad as some are making him out to be. He (and the OL) did spring a couple of much-needed good gainers on the ground. One other thing: Slauson's team won.
147 yds rushing last night at 5 yds a carry, no sacks against a D that had 6 in the first 2 games Sure, lets change something that is working
Slauson just got beat on several plays and either had to hold or let Sanchez get creamed. I'd rather him hold if he gets beat. Hell, he probably held several other holds that were missed by the refs. I don't think I saw any holds on Slauson that weren't last ditch efforts before getting beat. The holding isn't the problem, getting beat is the problem.
That's the first game I believe that Slauson has had any penalties. The false start, that happens sometimes to the best. The First holding penalty I don't have a problem with really, yes it cost us a touchdown but honestly if Slauson hadn't held that lineman I Think Sanchez either gets sacked before the pass or hit as he's throwing. I don't like he got beat there but honestly I'd rather have the hold than Sanchez get drilled. The second holding call, honestly if refs are going to call that holding they might as well throw the flag on each and every play by every offensive team cause I guarentee there's that much "holding" going on each and every play by every offensive line in the game. That's not to say Slauson doesn't need to improve some portions of his game, he got beat which resulted in the first holding call. He's got areas he clearly needs to improve on, But he's also playing much better than 90% of this board believed he would prior to the season. As for if he blocked the wrong guy on a play, it looks that way but honestly unless we know the blocking assignment called out by Mangold we'll never know if he was on the wrong guy or if Mangold called the wrong blocking assignements for the rush the Dolphins actually put on. And that's not a knock on Mangold btw, defenses disguise their rushes all the time and noones going to guess right 100% of the time.
Remember this O-Line went 32 straight games with the same unit, they had chemistry. It's an adjustment for every one, they'll get their shit together. I heard a quote on the radio the other day with Holmes, Revis, and Pace coming back, and with.... Slauson and Wilson getting better. Sanchez getting more comfortable. Keller emerging. ..and our all-weather team clicking late. (Greene will start rolling in cold weather) the quote was "You better beat the Jets now, because no one's beating them the 2nd half of the season"
So is Ducasse just really, really dumb? Physically, he's heads and tails above Slauson - something must be going on.
No need at all to do anything about Slauss IMO I just checked -- DBrick and Ferguson committed a bunch of holding penalties in their first season --- and last week Moore and Woody were both called for holding by One Sided Jerome and his crew (who didn't see ANY Dolohin holding at all) The one penalty on that great TD scramble by Sanchez was a total phantom bogus call that One Sided Jerome should be ashamed of But, NFL refs are never ashamed of any of their screwups, never punished for any of them and just head back on Monday to their insurance salesman jobs for the week. Last night, as soon as I saw that Walt "Yellow Flag" Anderson was the ref, I knew the game would be brought to it's knees with more than 20 penalty calls, most of them designed to maximize Walt's appearances and speaking engagements on National Television. He's the same Jerk who did the same job of ruining a football game in Jets-Ravens in week one. the four worst are Walt Yellow Flags Anderson, Ron Winter, Jerome Booger and Walt "Tuck Rule" Coleman if we have any of those four for a game, the game is pretty much down the toilet
It's really impossible to say Vlad in this poll because Slauson was obviously chosen because he looked better. If Slauson looked better, and he sucks, how bad would Vlad have been. I hate to just give Slauson time because it could cost us games but that's what we have to do.
Coleman wk 1 Preseason. Winters wk3 Preseason. Anderson Week1 Reg. Booger Week3 Reg. So given the 6 week rule (preseason does not count..we have two more @$$f**ngs coming soon. Won't see Winters this week, he had the Jills week2
What penalty did he have in the first 2 games? Ferguson and Woody had penalties against the Ravens Moore against the Pats Then Moore, Woody and Slauson against the Fins
Based on what? He has allowed two sacks; very few pressures; and has a few holding penalties, one of which was really a poor call. Go back to last year and try to remember FANECA sucking big time for the first 6 weeks. He came on then but not enough to save his job. How about allowing a first year player time to develop chemistry with his linemates? The Ngata sack was bad but MANGOLD chose the wrong OG to help! He was supposed to hewlp Slauson. By the way: Its really not often that Ngata does anything well. right? And for what its worth: BRICK & WOODY have not played very well so far. MOORE has a holding call and an off sides. But why don't we just blame SLAUSON for everything! I wonder where he was when President Lincoln was assassinated?
