Revis has not been 100% this season yet so we can't compare him being in or out this year until he's truly back.

Cro stepped up against Moss last week, and to be honest he matches up way better against Moss then Marshall, any of us would know that

The statistics are great nonetheless, but the impact of a 100% Revis is bar none, WRs that Cro doesn't do well on Revis does amazing on

We clearly missed him so far this season

We can't win this season with Henne throwing for that many yards despite him throwing the ball 44 times because top tier QBs like Rodgers, Brady and Manning will eat us alive. With Revis I think we would of had more opportune TOs and made the game living hell for Henne.

We're 2-1 with Darrelle Revis at not 100% or out and it definitely wasn't the defense that caused the loss. If Revis is 100% we might have won the game against the Ravens, but then again we lost enough games last year of that type when the offense did not function that the proposition is unlikely

We of course win our 2 wins if Revis is healthy. Oops, that's no difference. And come to think of it I don't know that we win against the Patriots if Revis is healthy. We lost badly last year once when he shut down Moss.

I don't know that I'm the one with the preconceptions here. You're using such a small sample size that its hard to argue the bigger picture.

The Jets had a complete loss against Baltimore. They came out unprepared and played sloppy undisciplined football. One note Rex made is that he made a coaching error in not allowing Revis to shadow Boldin who promptly lit up our secondary when Revis wasn't around.

Even through to when Revis tweaked his hamstring in the New England game his conditioning was visibly an issue. The guy hasn't played at 100% yet this season. Your arguing against him as though he's given us the best he has to offer and still has been insignificant. Using 2009 as a sample size gives a much better picture considering the fact that he was healthy and in tandem with that the defense was lights out.

Find one game prior to the Colts game where the Jets secondary got lit up as bad as they just did yesterday. Even in the Colts game we were taking injuries all over the place including in the secondary. A healthy Colts passing game vs. a depleted secondary is a recipe for disaster and that's exactly what happened to us. The Dolphins just played the Jets secondary only short of Revis and were made to look just like the Colts. That's unacceptable. Miami is a run first team and they burned us with their passing game.

So far this season the Jets have been unable to get off the field on third down in most cases. As good as the defense has been its been wearing itself out because it struggles to get off the field. Whether its a penalty or giving up a big pass the Jets are struggling to just close out opposing drives. A large reason for this is a lack of a healthy Revis.

At any rate, I feel like we're going in circles and I need to run soon.

It is also not apples to apples since imo the Ravens have better receivers as a group than Miami. Miami's receivers could be improving. But righti now the Ravens as a group are better.

I understand that a win is a win, and a loss a loss. But you are ignoring the margin of victory, and the other obvious comparison between week one and three, which is that the D gave up only ten points in week one and 23 last night. Meaning the D gave up more than twice as many points without Revis as they did with him.

Why don't you factor points against into your analysis? BecaUse it doesn't fit your conclusions?

In the first Miami loss last year Henne went 20-26 for 241 yards and 2 TD's. He burned the Jets for a 59 yard TD to Ted Ginn.

In the Jacksonville game Garrard went 16-26 for 221 yards and a TD.

In the New England loss Brady went 28-41 for 310 yards and a TD.

In the first Indy game Manning went 14 for 21 for 192 in a half and a series.

It's a myth that the Jets shut down all comers in the air last year. We actually had several games a lot like the one Henne just had against us in terms of being unable to shut down the opposing passing game. The difference is that we won the game last night, whereas we lost those games last year.

This is an inaccurate characterization of the game. If the Dolphins had looked like the Colts last night they'd have put 30+ points on the board with that performance. They actually sputtered some finishing drives and that's why they lost.

The Jets have given up some big 3rd down plays but the penalties have killed them in terms of getting off the field. That's to be expected with a rookie and a player new to the system playing major roles.

Because the Jets have allowed 24 points on defense in the 6 quarters Revis has played and 23 points on defense in the 6 quarters he has not?

    They missed him a lot.

You can look at it anyway you want, but he is definitely a top 3 defensive player in the NFL.

How do you not miss that?

He's definitely not a top 3 defensive player in the NFL. He's definitely a top 3 cornerback though.

The Jets gave up 15.1 pts a game last season with Revis healthy the whole season. They're giving up 15.7 points a game this season with Revis either not healthy or not playing. Yes, they gave up some points not on defense last year and so there's a real difference there, however they're also starting a raw rookie at CB instead of a seasoned vet in Lito Sheppard and there's a real difference there as well.

Kyle Wilson's presence as a rookie starting his first few games is a big negative in the passing game at this point. It's a necessary negative given the injuries and because all rookie CB's have some issues early on as they learn the NFL game.

Nonetheless the dropoff that his presence and Revis absence creates just isn't that impactful all things considered. I mean the Jets don't have the best CB last year on the field and do have a raw rookie there and they are giving up 15.7 points a game. In the 6 quarters that the Jets haven't had Revis and have been forced to put Wilson out there on almost every down they have given up fewer points than in the 6 quarters that Revis was available.

Why do rookie CB's get to start so often? Because the damage they do overall is limited by the fact that they play a secondary position not a primary one.

Brandon Marshall was thrown to 17 times and had 10 receptions. How many #1 receivers that have faced Revis Island have been thrown to 17 in one game? Not many that I can think of. The difference that Revis makes is intangible but very significant none-the-less.

Brandon Marshall was not thrown at 27 times and the Fins had 16 receptions on those 27 throws. Brandon Marshall had 166 yards on throws to him and the Fins had 197 yards on throws not to him. He averaged more yards in the throws to him because he's not an outlet receiver and so he doesn't get checked down to for short yardage.

Basically the damage the Fins did throwing to Marshall on Cromartie Reef was about the same as the damage they did throwing to everybody else. The Fins had 19 pass plays that got 1st downs, 7 of them were to Marshall and 12 to other people.

This is ridiculous. Br4d, when you talk about last year you're purposely ignoring the fact that the guys lined up opposite Revis were at very best Lito Sheppard, and more often Dwight Lowery and Drew Coleman.

Now a healthy Revis has Cromartie and Wilson lined up on the other side.

Pretending that manipulating statistics is going to show that Revis doesn't impact the game is dishonest. And you know it.

Cromartie was effective if not good against Randy Moss and Brandon Marshall in consecutive weeks. Are you going to seriously argue that he couldn't do a better job against non-#1 receivers?

Again that is a bad comparison, last year when we got smoked it was not Moss/Revis, it was Welker. We contained him this year without Revis on the field so that only would've added to defensive domination.

It is hard to argue our second half against the Pats since they failed to score another point.

If Revis gets back to his last-season form, it will be golden.

And Donald Strickland who actually was better in the bump-and-run than either Sheppard or Lowery.

And what exactly does that do for the Jets chances of winning?

The Jets were about as good as you can get against the pass last year. Adding a couple of cornerbacks to that doesn't make them significantly better in that category it just means teams will probably pass against them less, bringing the run defense into greater focus. Lito Sheppard and Dwight Lowery were ranked 3rd and 7th respectively by FootballOutsiders.com in success rate as a cornerback last season. Do you really think Cromartie is going to be 2nd instead of 3rd or that Wilson will be better than 7th as a rookie?

Making the argument that the Jets have better defensive backs this year than they had last year and this will effect the end results is almost meaningless except in the context of having to face a team with 3 or 4 superior receivers and a great QB.

I'm not manipulating statistics, I'm displaying them. There's a difference.

I'm going to argue that the difference between having him on the #1 and having Wilson on the #2 and having Revis on the #1 and him on the #2 isn't normally a game-deciding difference. The pass defense just got lit up like a christmas tree by the Dolphins and we didn't lose. And we're nowhere near that bad on pass defense without Revis. It was just a bad matchup on Marshall for Cromartie and a rookie still having issues with penalties and coverage that caused most of the damage. We won anyway.

Be honest here, if I'd told you that Henne was going to pass for 363 yards and 2 TD's would you have expected a win or a loss? Would you rather have had that happen or have the Dolphins rush for 160 yards? I'd much rather have the passing defect because you can live through that one. if the Dolphins just ran the ball down our throats last night the game would have been much harder to win.

Marshall is a beast...although if Revis was in they probably could have changed their blitz packages a bit, and gotten better matchups

He definitely is a top 3 defender.

....and calling him a top 3 cornerback is insulting.

How about calling him a douchebag? Cause I'd agree he's a top 3 douchebag right now...
