I think Wilson's biggest issue right now is he doesnt trust himself. He won't turn his head to the QB because he is worried the receiver is about to make some last second move or something. Once he learns to trust himself and find the ball, he will start racking up int's. He has been in nearly perfect position 3 times this year, and would have at least knocked it away had he known where the ball was. Then he manages to miss the ball because he is faceguarding. Wilson didn't play well, but he is still learning, and shows sparks here and there. He has been abused on the outside, but when he has been playing inside, Wilson has been very good, particularly against the TE's.
I opened this thread thinking it was going to be nothing but accolades. He's a rookie corner manning up against some really good receivers. And of course teams are going to pick on him because he's only played 3 games in the NFL - any corner where the guy he is covering is the top option every play is going to get burned a few times. And a bunch of the catches last night against Wilson were pretty much undefendable. I think it's undeniable this kid has a ton of talent and will only get better. If you want to find the weak link in the Jets defense, look elsewhere.
I just read a post that said the man should play Safety.... To me he looks GREAT for a rookie.... I see a pass rush giving QB's A LOT of time.. Remember when Mangini's defense in his last year never got to the QB and out veteran CB's got torched by no-namers to close out that season.. It happens.... Right now we have a rookie covering pretty good wr's and the QB with all the time in the world - NFL teams complete passes like that and a few of those sideline patterns were damn good throws that any CB would have a problem covering..... But, I'm looking at the long run and From what I see I see a STUD CB and I've been doing this for quite a long time.
wow our secondary isn't dominant with the leagues best CB out and a rookie replacing him in the starting lineup? Crazy.
I hope one of these 3 times you speak of is not the PD on Gronkowski. Brady under-threw that pass horribly, and Gronkowski had him beat badly. That should have been a TD. I don't think anyone disagrees that Wilson has the talent. But he needs to get his footwork right and turn his head around when the receiver does on those deep throws. Revis should take some time in practice to work with him one-on-one. The things he needs to fix *can* be fixed, he just needs to be coached up a bit.
He looked more like the week 1 Kyle Wilson than the week 2 Kyle Wilson yesterday. My guess is that we'll see that type of inconsistency throughout the season. Hopefully he's more consistent by the end of the season and into the playoffs (if we're in).
just because you see a lot of potential in him, or he is being targeted by the offense significantly, doesn't mean that as of now he isn't a weak link of the defense. he's not playing very well, sure, maybe in 10 games he'll be better but that doesn't change his performance in this first three games.
I would rather have him than Allen. For those that don't know who Allen is he is the corner that was covering Edwards last night for Miami and gave up very long TD and a pass interference penalty in the endzone. Of course the TD was the Defensive coordinators fault, How can you put a short DB on an Island with Edwards? I actually think Wilson is playing well for a rookie. He is developing and should be better for all the quality PT he is getting now.
Wilson is very capable in the nickel role... this season he should play there as much as possible (which btw is the plan). Then gradually, if needed, he can start working on the outside too. It's not easy to start as a rookie at CB...
I agree 100% it's not his fault that our HC want's to blitz on every down, to add insult to injury our blitz is not getting to the QB, I like Ryan's defense but he needs to pull the throttle back at times and force the QB to make reads, right now the qb's know to look at Wilsons way because he has no help and he's a rookie.
BUT. On the plus side.. Wilson is getting a PHD at Starting NFL CB School. Revis out in camp gave him experience and now being left alone on an island while QB's have all day is called GOING TO SCHOOL..... This is a kid who will work hard and study tape all week, and bounce back in a big way NO DOUBT..... Some time people have to look at actual talent and everything going on on the field and not just a rookie CB getting beat. Add back Calvin Pace and Darrelle Revis and LETS ROCK!! He'll still get picked on but, now by WR3 and at this point Wilson is much better in the slot.
Although he seemed somewhat better in the second half, Wilson scared me out there last night. Obviously Revis being out meant we saw more of Kyle than we would have otherwise. And Coleman has that very lame play where he fell down all on his own when he could have gone for the tackle, so I would not replace Wilson with him. Lowery? Ugh. He's just not very good. So I guess that's why we saw so much of Wilson. And yeah he's a rookie, and he COULD get better, and probably will. But it's no sure thing and how long will it take?
By week 6 he will be better than Asomunga.. BOOK IT! WTF kind of questions are these? Seriously? Have people ever seen a CB develop past 3 games?
I know I'm also speaking for some of the other posters in here when I say this.... but some of you sound like fucking Dolphin fans in here with your lack of knowledge of how the game of football is played. CB is one of the toughest positions to translate from college to the NFL. The speed of the game is almost triple what these kids have been playing against the last 2 3 4 years. Your coming from a great college team in Boise State to a Defensive juggernaut of a team in the Jets. Theres going to be a learning curve when dealing with a different scheme than you've played in the past 3 4 years and also when the game is played faster than you've ever seen it. You guys have your expectations of KW WAYYYYYYYYY too high right now. Is it frustrating to see? Of course I'm not going to deny that... but you also need to realize it's to be expected from a player in his shoes. I'm honestly ashamed of some of the posters in this thread that are calling themselves Jet fans with these Fin fan-like statements.
Some posters here need to get off their high horses and take the god damn homer blinders off. We know the kid has enormous potential, but he played like shit in 2 of the last three games. There's no denying that. Are we saying that he's a bust? Of course not, but to deny that he's had terrible games is stupid. He's a rookie, but he's also the weak link on our defense right now.
