I used to enjoy waking up early on a Sunday morning and watching NFL shows such as "Edge NFL Matchup", where they looked at nothing but film and broke down the X's and O's of the game, and THAT'S IT. All NFL related coverage these days seems to be about drama and soap opera BS.

There is so much discussion about who should play/shouldn't play and very little coverage of the games and matchups themselves anymore. People spit out all kinds of opinions with very little logic to back it up.

Lets look at the Jets coverage this year...
    1) More talk about Rex Ryan's profanity than our football team
    2) More talk about players not in camp like Revis than the guys that are
    3) The Braylon Edwards situation has just put me over the top in terms of how dumb the media is.

"The Jets need to teach Braylon Edwards a lesson"...can't count how many times I've heard it, and haven't heard a single educated statement yet.

Why is it that the Jets franchise is getting more criticism for not sitting Edwards than Braylon himself for the act? How does sitting Edwards for the game or even deactivating him teach him a lesson? He gets his gamecheck regardless. His buddy Stallworth who he was out with the night of his DUI gets charged for Manslaughter and kills someone, and that STILL didn't teach him a lesson, but sitting out one reg season game will? These guys are just flat out dumb, and the Jets shouldn't be held accountable for that.

What he did is absolutely horrible, but him not playing ultimately only penalizes the Jets fans, not Braylon Edwards. When the average person gets a DUI, you don't get a phonecall from your boss saying "Hey, we're gonna just let you take the next week off. We're still gonna pay you for it, but you don't have to do your job this week" If the league wants to suspend him, and take away a game check which the Jets are legally not able to do, then that's another thing. But you can't expect the Jets to give Braylon his $450,000 game check for the week just so he can have a day off from work. Braylon will be "taught his lesson", when it's time to sign his contract and he doesn't get that big money he was expecting. It all comes down money, and it's not the Jets job to teach Braylon that lesson. History has shown that guys like that never learn their lesson, and the media never points this out....they just blame the Jets. It's the Jets job to win football games for us the fans, the people that pay their checks. The Jets management's sole responsibility is to their fans, and not to teach guys life lessons.

They build drama to attract the casual fans

    Because people like drama

The know that us , real football fans, will watch no matter what

So they use other stuff to attract the harder to reach audience

Not saying that it's right, but that's television for ya

Well, let's be honest here. The Jets have put a spotlight on themselves, and being in the New York Media what do you expect? Not saying I like it either, but it doesn't surprise me.

The only good thing is that it has made us the underdog again in the eyes of the Media, I think this teams plays better when playing in that role.

I love when Miami plays the underdog role. In rivalries though, the spreads really don't even mean anything. In divisional rivalries, especially ones like Dolphins-Jets, anything can happen.

I have to say I couldn't agree with you more. I miss the "good old days" of the 90's before it was all about the next drama filled situation or QB switcheroo. Today's NFL is not the wonderful NFL I was raised on, that goes for many parts of the game as well as the coverage surrounding it.

From DAY ONE, the Jets were installed as an underdog which moved up an notch and a half:

ALREADY KNOWING that the Jets were going to play WITHOUT Calvin Pace (the Jets best pass rusher) OUT, Darrell Revis (the NFL's best shutdown corner--esp. considering your newly acquired big-boy WR Brandon Marshall) OUT, Chris Jenx a dominant middle-pocket-collapsing NG OUT, why'd the betting line move further in favor of the Dolphins, even with the 'questionable/probably' injury listings of your own team? Edwards alone? Hmmmm.......

Not to mention, homecoming, undefeated, division-leading 2-0 in their favor? You wanna mention ALL divisional bets are off?

Sorry but imho, tonight you'd better bring home the bacon.

The REAL difference here is that should the Dolphins win the game, the Jet-bashing media will use it to pile on some jive about the Dolphins finding a way to overcome those big, bad, UNDISCIPLINED Jets when in fact had the 'facts' been reversed (Mia with 3 of their best defenders out on the road), Miami losing to the Jets in the Meadowlands without those 3 defenders would've been given a "sob!..poor, poor me!" pass by that same media.

And I dare you to suggest otherwise. Further, I don't give a shit about the ESPN bullshit "P.C." artists et al. You're all NFL-centric...and much as I hate to say so, I feel the Jets are the 21st century "Raiders" (read: NFL establishment foggies hate them). Fine by me....Super Bowl champs cure all ills...

As for the Black & Silver reference, fortunately, Al Davis is nowadays more than capable of mistaking John Candy in a black Raider jersey for Darrell Lamonica/Kenny Stabler.

I'm sorry, but I really hope that Bart Scott meets VagainaHenne when the "crease" least expects it..... "splat!"

Exactly. I dont even bother with this shit. I watch the games and suffer or sometimes even celebrate in my own fashion without some talking head telling me what is wrong/right.

I don't really give a shit about the media coverage because it's pretty easy to avoid. I read Manish's stuff and some of the articles posted here that aren't retarded. I don't really pay much mind to Florio or Peter King because they hate the Jets more than anybody not named Francesa and will always be biased. And I listen to Francesa from time to time because it's pretty funny to see him almost die talking about the Jets.

ESPN is garbage, they're only good for highlights but that's what EPSNNEWS is for.

Was that RODNEY HARRISON telling the world about right and wrong? lol.

  19. I'm pretty sure Collinsworth just said that because of all the other guys who have been caught DWI and haven't been suspended, Edwards (and possibly D'Brick and Gholston) should have been.
