Edwards was a huge part of our offense last week. You want to remove that in order to send a message to a player who will likely be gone next year. The difference between wins and losses in the NFL is generally very small, and you want to self impose a hit to our offense in what will likely be a close game.

I can't wait for Sunday, if only to see the Braylon Edwards threads die.

The guy was cut off before any rebuttal questions in typical Fatty style.

This isn't about sending a message to a player. It's about sending an effective message to the team. The Jets are not acting like they have even a remote prayer of winning a Super Bowl. They're being derailed by a few bad actors who lack a sense of responsibility for how their actions affect the team. They're being derailed by a team-wide lack of discipline. They're on a rollercoaster from week to week with huge highs and deep lows. There's no reason to believe this won't continue to be the status quo until the Jets season is shot.

A focused coaching staff would make a stand early on to get the rest of the team back on track. The fact that Rex Ryan is somewhat unfocused and undisciplined himself makes the need for effective intervention even more critical.

I'm not sitting here arguing this because I don't like Braylon Edwards or Rex Ryan. I'm arguing this because I can think of a very small handful of undisciplined NFL teams that ever got anywhere and a huge trunkful that sank into the muck as things spiralled out of control.

On the field the team was almost 100% more disciplined in week 2. Braylon had a couple of stupid moments, but aside from that the discipline was markedly better across the board.

Let's remember what's important here, on the field performance. I think you're buying into this soap opera the media is selling far too much.

What message does sitting a key component to the offense in a critical game send to the team? You're more interested in calming the media soap opera than winning games? The guys in the locker room know who gives them the best chance to win and it sure as hell isn't David Clowney or Patrick Turner.

Even if you do want to look at the off field BS, is it REALLY that bad?
    1) DUI - something more than half of NFL teams have had in the past 2 years.
    2) A female reporter dressed like a whore in the locker room got some hoots and hollers from the guys and the media blew it way out of proportion.

    Anything else?

couldnt agree more. Rex talks about its not about one guy. Well 52 people suffer and potentially fail for hard work if Edwards sits. thats simply just the truth.

I dont see anyone calling Jared Allen the scum of the earth. so many people with DUI's and its on SportsCenter cuz were in NY.

not to excuse it. what Braylon did was fucking retarded beyond belief. especially with access to a free ride.

whatever, Braylon will scored TD's and people will forget eventually. Hell Mike Vick is a savior in a town that chased out one of the best QB's of the last 15 years.

anyone else notice how in his PR statement after being released he indicated he wants to retire a Jet?

I smell a discount coming. Braylon is done losing, he rotted in CLE for 5 years and has 3rd overall draft pick money hes sitting on. I doubt he would demand much to go lose in STL, OAK, or SEA.

everyone wants to be the moral superstar when ignorance shows its face. and I would never excuse someone being that irresponsible when they have the money and access to alternate transportation, but the thing not too many people are discussing is.

if his windows werent too dark, this wouldve never happened.

its not like he was slaloming on the garden state parkway during a childrens parade.

than again him sitting shotgun with Stallworth is what really gives the media the ammo to blast this story until theyve milked every bit of judgment and drama from it.

time for him to pull his head out of his ass and Dougie on Vontae Davis

I don't care if the guy who serves me coffee got arrested for a bar fight at the weekend, I don't care if the girl who answers the phones at my office was previously arrested for hooking and I don't care if my team's football players got arrested for DUI other than if it prevents him playing on Sunday. I find it absolutely perverse that people would take this bizarre moral position, and I am completely confused and annoyed by one of the team's most important offensive weapons being arbitrarily punished by the organisation.

Probably not, to me that's pretty bad by Jacobs. If that thing hits some 10 year old not paying attention that's a real ugly situation regardless of it's an accident. That thing is a weapon and can do some serious damage.

It's just the ridiculousness of how that Puritan streak in American culture can pop up in odd places from time to time. Bradway's posts on this subject are case in point. He's normally a good poster, but lesss than a week after the Jets killed NE, who most predicted would win the division and would certainly be in the playoffs, he says the Jets are not a winning team. Wow.

Talk about a loss of perspective...

If the concern is performance and discipline on the field, then focus on performance and discipline on the field, not the off hour antics of players on their free time, which at most has a quite marginal effect on that on field performance.

All this talk that Edwards is definitely gone next year is similarly unhinged. It will almost certainly depend on how well he plays the rest of the year. The impact of the arrest will be mixed, since if it does affect his market value, it makes it easier for the Jets to sign him.

Yes he did. He said "I've nevah heard of that happaneng befoah" and said it was a foolish thing to do. Basically though in his mind the Giants get a pass because there is no precedent set, so they can't be blamed for not disciplining him. He never demanded anything of them, even though a Giants player put a fan directly in harm's way. Naturally when a caller said "Mike what if that had killed somebody" and ripped the Giants for their handling of it he says the chances of a helmet killing somebody is so slim, that would not happen, etc. He always has an excuse.

I seriously doubt he does any time.

BE probably pleads down to a violation. I am not an expert on Ohio law, of course, but I doubt a mere violation is a probation violation.

People assume to much and go crazy. Part of the problem with the internet is people post crap that has no basis, and takes on a life of its own. I have yet to see a compellng analysis that would support a conclusion that he's going to do time.

I didn't think I was going crazy by pointing out the possibility. Even if he does not get time if it is a violation it could effect his offseason options two ways.

First- The spector of a possible parole violation and the not knowing will keep some teams away until it is settled.

Second- he has already added another mark to his record and the league may suspend him as an example.

I am sorry, I did not mean to say it was not a concern. I just think it unlikely he does time.

Us Brits will tell you that you're butchering the English language by using a Z in words like "organize" rather than an S, but the truth is that the original spelling was done with a Z and we changed the spelling after the Pilgrim Fathers had sailed for America. So the fact is that you actually spell it more correctly than us, but I'm sticking with my version all the same thankyouverymuch.

    Anyway, I digress.......

The Jet FO has a plausible reason not to do what no one else did, which would most likely hurt their effort against the hated fish. You'd rather they hurt the effort?

Are you a fan of some other team, perhaps?

    That about covers it.
