Good stuff willie, like it has been said here and other forms, the only reason that this is being blown up is cuz BE is a Jet. The Jets are an easy target right now, and the timing is shitty, if this happens in the off season it is mostly a non issue. Im not saying DWI is not a big issue or a serious offense. However, why should the Jets be the first team to suspend a player for this??? Then ask those people why Ronnie and will allen werent suspended. I think a starting RB and starting corner are more valueable to any team, then a starting receiver.
I agree he shouldn't be suspended but the circumstances are different. He is already on probation in Ohio at the time of this arrest. Additionally, Woody just implemented and announced to the team about his car service but Edwards neglected to use it. Last, but not least, this is Miami week and he's out until 0500 drinking. I'd be pissed if I was the HC. In Edwads defense, he is taking the heat for Ferguson and Gholston who should be dancing on the carpet for being out late and using the same poor judgement Edwards did by getting in the car with him.
Tanny said on 1050 today that it's against the CBA to deactivate Edwards in this situation. They'd either have to cut him or dress him and not play him. Dressing him and not playing him is not viable, because then you'd be a man short. With the Jets WR situation, they currently have 4 guys, Cotch, Braylon, Clowney, Smith. I don't think the Jets could even fathom going into a game with only Cotchery, Clowney and Smith.
To be fair to Edwards, he was out for Cotchery's charity to begin with, and probably decided to go get some drinks with VG and Brick, and wound up staying there till 5. There have been more then a few times where I wound up staying about 4 hours longer then I intend to when i go to a bar, for whatever reason.
Yeah I just do not see the big deal in all of this. Braylon Edwards messed up and messed up hard, but the CBA and common sense doesn't allow him to be benched without playing this week. It's terribly stupid, but these things happen to NFL players as evidenced by the original poster's list. He's an idiot, but tell me something I didn't know before this incident? I wasn't raising my kids to be like Braylon Edwards, I just pray he holds on to the ball.
Thanks, I needed a good laugh. OMG! They were out late!? That was their day off. Coming off a big win. I'll bet that more than half of NFL players under the age of 30 that are single do that. If you were the HC, I guess yer head would explode because half of your team stays out late that one day a week they can. The car service thing isn't new. Wrong again. Miami has two players with pending DUI charges. That is not to mention Hartline's bizarre incident when his SUV was found in a ditch. Jerk offs all over the place are trying to hold the Jets to a higher standard than every other team in the NFL, and it's bullshit. The Jets are actually going above and beyond what other teams have done by not starting him. Hard Knocks just might have been a bad idea.
And I still haven't heard a viable explanation of how the NFLPA would enforce this. You can punish a player for 'violating team rules', this can fall under that umbrella. Besides, Herm did this with John Abraham and I didn't hear a peep from the union then. That's what does annoy me about this whole situation...there wasn't one-TENTH of the nonsense around the whole Vincent Jackson thing and that was on the eve of a playoff game!
Good job, I agree w/ your point. I think ALL players regardless if it is their 1st or 10th offense should be suspended at least one game for a DUI/DWI. Right now that isn't the rule and he does not deserve to be suspended based on no one else getting suspended but it is a rule that should be in place.
I wonder if Francesa will ask Phil Simms, when he's on his show today, if his son should have lost playing time for his DWI this year... somehow I doubt it
Hard Knocks or not, I'm sure Fatcessa would be on a soap box and just being New York, the Jets would get the scrutiny....
Im sure in the very near future that rule will be in place. Edwards may not pay for his mistake right now, but that bill is coming.
It needs to be a league rule though. You can't expect coaches/gm's, whose job it is to win, to voluntarily put themselves at a disadvantage.
The more I hear about this on the news the more I keep thinking why Brick and Ghost try and stop him or were they drunk too. He could have killed someone or even killed two of his team mates. I know it seems Fatso is jumping down the Jets and am sure he is to point. But think of the big picture here. As a fan I want him to play, but as a father I want him gone.
there is no way they were sober. If they were sober, they deserve twice the punishment Edwards does. At least his judgement was impaired. If they were perfectly fine, and didnt take his keys, shame on them. But to then get in the car with a drunk driver? thats just stupider than hell.
Alleged, wait till the court finds him guilty as Americans we are all garunteed that. If found guilty suspend.
Raise your own kids. Don't look to others to be role models. You can't count on others, anyway. Get with the program.
What the jets are doing to Braylon is probably more than most teams would do. Clearly this has been such a big story because we are now the big bad jets. Interesting tweet from Schefter a few minutes ago. At least someone is looking at this objectively. Adam Schefter (@Adam_Schefter) 9/24/10 9:06 AM Interesting how Braylon Edwards, who hasn't been convicted, is getting ripped and Vincent Jackson, with two DUIs, is getting sympathy.
