"Hello NYPD anonymous tip line? This is David Clowney. I just saw a tinted out Ranger Rover driving very erratically. You'd better come and check this out. And arrest this guy. And put him in jail until week sevent... I mean... for a long time."

Goodell cannot suspend him for this, period. Unless, as already pointed out he had another instance of this while in the NFL.

But because he's on probation, he could go to jail for this no?

He wouldn't be in the program because of him arrest in Cleveland, so right now it appears he is not in the program and won't get suspended by the NFL.

If the Jets FO was to take a poll on this site, he would not be playing.

Good thing for us they don't.

I can see Salz in front of the office with a MADD sign though.

It's doubtful, but he could. Depends on the voracity of the Cleveland DA.

They are both criminal offenses so you may have something here.

    You missed the point.

Insert your choice of rival team's player that gets himself into a similar situation as Braylon [here].

No offense, but don't be naive. First of all Edwards may be deemed as having violated his probation. Secondly, the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy is intentionally ambiguous so the commissioner can make ''judgment calls" on situations that aren't cut-and-dry.

Johnson & Johnson has committed more crimes in their history that potentially affected the health and well being of millions of people than Braylon Edwards did this morning.
He made a mistake - everyone get down off their soapboxes.
I'm sure some of you, or someone close to you via friend or family has made the same mistake regardless of whether you were caught doing it.
He's a great football player who happens to be a questionable citizen of society.

DUI bust = education in most cases. And he's lucky this was a victimless crime - a wide awakening.
Make him do volunteer work/community service with families of victims of DWI deaths - I'm sure he'll learn a lesson out of this.

No I understood that, just didn't think it needed to be addressed. Obviously we'd want those teams to suffer as much as possible and for us to prosper. I was just saying that Moss and Marshall were bad examples because of their prior issues.

Dude, that's been said throughout. He has a 180 day suspended sentence. As I said earlier, that might actually make it easier for us to sign him.

Yeah I was thinking that. If he goes to jail it would lower his negotiating power and maybe lower his value altogether. At the very least they could load the contract up with 'don't be an idiot' incentives.

Not saying I'm rooting for the guy to go to jail, just something to think about.

Good call, it will probably also be a lot easier to sign him to a one year deal too. Not many teams will want to commit to a 2-4 year deal with someone with a history like Braylon's.

It's not about soapboxes, when I got busted for DWAI I was not NFL star receiver in the media capital of the world. I won't go into the whole role model thing because that just flames other discussions.

Braylon is one of the faces of the Jets, a team that has been in the spotlight for 6 months now. Do I think it's a big deal since no one was hurt? No, but that doesn't change the fact that Woody Johnson has a responsibility to make sure the faces of his company are held to a higher standard then a everyday employee. If the Jets IT director got a DUI no one would give a shit.

Woody is involved with multiple charities and to have him just look past this would make him look bad, whether we like it or not he will be inactive this week. Unless Woody really wants beat the Phins as much as the fans and his coach.

His history is more like a frat boy then a criminal.

When did you get bagged for DUI?

Honestly, I'm not going to be a hypocrite here, I am lucky I never got one, being 27 now, I realize how stupid and irresponsible I was.
I also am afraid my unborn kids will be doing the same stuff.
