I created a thread about this earlier in offseason about who will shut up the critics these "controversial" picks that had sports writers putting down our team. Thus far, its looking that everyone of Tanny's offseason pickups have looked great. LT and JT have had two great games and look like they still got it, Pool also had that sweet pick yesterday. Cro is starting to look great when he hasn't committed the penalties...2 ints in 2 games. Folk has also been near perfect. Not to mention the superbowl MVP Holmes will be back in 2 weeks. Mind you the team gave up pretty much the minimum to pick up all of these guys. I just wanted to say Woody better keep this guy forever, I think its safe to say he's been the best GM in Jets history.
I really think two weeks into the season is way to early to declare him the best ever. That said I have liked all his moves this offseason very much and I think Rex deserves credit too.
Well, I mean it hasn't just been these past 2 weeks, look at all of the the contracts he's had to deal with this past offseason...not to mention the previous years. This is one of the most talented teams in Jets history when their shit is together. Perhaps if they do go 13-3, which would break the record for the Jets wins in a season, everyone can come to agree...
No offense, but the following thread shits all over this one: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=47937 Same idea, infinitely better executed.
he was given an extension, so Tanny will be around for a long time. It'll take a complete removal of top names on this rosters for Tanny to be removed. I predict he retires here.
Tannenbaum's record as GM is 35-35 including 2 playoff appearances in 4 seasons. I'll wait until I see a great Jets team to pass judgement. Edit: I will say that he's about two seasons of this type of performance away from being fired for cause.
This.... He's great at the paperwork aspect of this job no doubt about it but until we put together a true winning and feared franchise I'm skeptical of best ever.
He doesn't coach the team, he puts the roster together. He's made mistakes, but his signings are fantastic. Also, any time he's traded up for a draft pick in the 1st round, its worked out very well.
Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing but love for Tannebaum. But he hasn't made history quite yet to be considered the best ever.
After 4 years as Jets GM Terry Bradway had a 37-32 record with 3 playoff appearances. He had traded up twice for players in the first round and those picks looked pretty good after 2004 as well. He had created long-term structural weaknesses in the Jets (offensive line aging out, skill position players getting old, defensive secondary becoming a patch and play unit with different safeties and CB's every season, etc.) that did not become glaringly clear until things started to go very wrong in 2005. I look at what Tannenbaum has done so far and I like what I see on the field but I also understand that with a salary cap a lot of it is not sustainable and that new long-term structural weaknesses have also been introduced. I'll judge him one way or the other after 2011. By then we'll know if he has the goods or if he's just a gifted horse-trader.
Exactly my point. Tanny isn't coaching the team. So it isn't ALL about the wins and loses. I'm looking at the moves he's made, his ability to pull all of this talent on the field. I really think heads will spin once Santonio Holmes plays here (assuming they put together offenses that look more yesterday again). Also whats more is that our backups are good enough to step in despite being nobodys, which shows a great job in scouting. It is very Patriots like to have that.
The hair. That HK clip where he's got 4 fingers of combover 5 inches straight up from the scalp is hilarious.
Tannenbaum drafted Gholston and hired Mangini .are you sure you don't want to rethink your statement?
