Here's a sobering thought for you pissed off posters. Just suppose for a minute that this team really isn't as good as advertised. That perhaps the hype we've had shoved down our throats since the AFCC game was exactly that..hype. It certainly didn't hurt (or help) PSL sales did it.. Maybe our Wr's are simply ordinary and they can't get seperation since there's not a true "burner" in the bunch. Certainly would explain the overabundance of checkdowns and shorties. Maybe our QB just isn't ready yet to start. That would explain the diapers and handcuffs from the OC. Maybe "ground and pound" went west with Thomas Jones and Faneca and the addition of Holmes means we're more Airborne than Infantry. Maybe the moves Tannenbaum made might take longer than a year to come together so that our CS can actually use them effectively. Maybe Ryan might realize that we can't blitz all the time to generate a pass rush and until we find a replacement for Jenx, we got a problem doiing that. Perhaps be a bit less predictable as to when we blitz and how we blitz might be a help. Just imagine that once again, this Jets team isn't one bound for glory but instead, in transition. Sounds familiar??
I get it. I'm one who will admit that, all along I enjoyed the hype, the ride, the hoopla and the anticipation. But I can say that all along I knew we weren't going to the Super Bowl. We have a tough schedule. Vegas says we win what, 9? You think Vegas will be that off? I don't. I think we're a playoff team. Right now, being a Super Bowl team isn't a reality. No one makes easy money in this league or by knowing the World Champions before a game is played. This year is no different.
What the hell are you talking about? You just figured out today that there has been hype? LOL. Its football. You have to win the games. The Jets were a 9-7 team. They will hopefully be a 10-6 team this season b/c that = progress. SB? Hopefully. Ya never know. Could happen. What I don't understand are the folks who actually think anybody is guaranteed a SB spot in August or September. That isn't how the league works. And it certainly doesn't work that way for a 9-7 football team w/a 2nd yr QB who was one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL last season. I Like Sanchez - but he's not good yet. I think he will get there and is making progress. But anybody who actually believed that the Jets were somehow guaranteed a SB berth is simply a moron when it comes to football. I mean honestly - that is simply STUPID. No team is guaranteed shit. You have to earn it on the field. That said, one loss doesn't mean that much. especially to a very good team like the ravens. especially a 1 pt loss in a game that the Jets probably should have won if they didn't make so many dumb penalties. Time to get better and get rready for the patsies. Lets knock off all the stupid talk about how we were somehow just gonna waltz through to a SB. I can't fathom who really believed that hype bs.
Jesus dude we lost by 1 point. You kind of contradict yourself when when you said that the CS doesn't have faith in Sanchez but that the addition of Holmes means we're more airborne. I understand the point of your post, but it's extremely premature.
since when the fuck did vegas became the nostradamus of foreshadowing football games? Games are played on the field
I agree with the "we lost by one point to a team some predict will go to the superbowl on a turnover and couldn't score more than 3 points ourselves on three turnovers" side of this argument for this ridiculous thread. And I should have thrown in we did it with a piece of shit, out of shape, overpaid CB who couldn't play more than one side of the field according to his coach. That too.
My philosophy has always been that the Jets haven't won sh*t in 40 years, so what do we stand to lose by being cocky? I've suffered through a 1-15 season and a bunch of seasons of less than 4 wins or less...personally, I'm willing to try a different approach.
I NEVER Bought the hype.... But, I'm all for the HC getting his players on board. Especially a HC who can back it up with game plans and good coaching - st least on Defense... This is not a Herm Edwards all Fluff coach... That said.. We lost by 1 point to a team that I think is top 3 in the whole NFL.
Perhaps it is premature. We'll see down the road but up until now, nothing in the preseason and the first game indicates we'll see alot different than what we've already seen. Holmes was obtained to stretch the field. BS, up until now, hasn't shown us that he's comfortable with Sanchez running a vertical passing game but instead, prefers the "ground and pound" relegating Sanchez into a Penningtonesque "game manager" role. Maybe the contradiction lies with the Holmes trade. We'll see in week 5 won't we..
Just a imagine for a moment that we won 12-10, wouldn't been about a 35 yard difference in total yards all else the same. This board would be hugging each other all week and in the parking lot Sunday. It was 1 game against another team with much hype where we lost by 1. Imagine we destroy the Pats this week, what happens then?
I think the offensive woes still would have had some folks worried. This has carried over from the preseason into the regular season. This upcoming game now becomes crucial for the Jets. Especially for the offense..
Jenks going down sucks but people need to stop scrutinizing our defense. We gave up 10 points. Every other team in the nfl except for maybe the ravens would kill for our defense. Our D isnt the problem. Our D is ready to win a superbowl. Our offense needs to be less then piss poor and somehow become mediocre for us to win in the playoffs.
