With the recent injury to our best NT Jenkins do our initial needs in next years draft change? I understand our drafting for next year were listed by priority as: 3-4 DE , OLB, Safety, NT, OL in that order but does that now change?
Nope. OLB depth is needed. wew are getting old here. 34 lineman. Both DE and NT. A RT of the future unless Ducasse is being groomed for it. Safety. Then all kinds of depth. That sums things up for the moment, but the offseason is a long way off.
Dude our D-Line is getting old too. Its gonna come too who ever is better on the board when we pick whether it be a good d-linemen or a good OLB pass rusher
No one has mentioned WR. IMO, Edwards will be gone after this season. After Holmes and Cotchery the WR group is practically non existent. A rush 3-4 OLB, 3-4 DE that can move inside and #3 Slot WR are my priorities. A good 3-4 DE with size can rotate inside and a true NT isn't a necessity, since we have Pouha. After Jerrell Powe, the pickings are very slim at NT in 2011's draft. A RB to team with LT and Greene and O-line depth should be considerations in a later rounds.
WR is a question to look at but ti depends on what we do. Is a trio of Holmes, Cotchery, and Smith that bad? Add Keller out wide in 4 man sets and its a good bunch of pass catchers. I think front 7 and Saftey are more pressing needs at this point.
I mentioned D-line as second on my list. Devito, Khroul, and the Ghost are all in thier 20's . We are not as bad off here as many think. Devito cane into this year as a starting end and both ghost and Kroul as rotational depth. I would love to draft a stud for the line, but see the need at OLB as worse right now.
Yea, when Brad Smith is in the equation. IMO, a #3 slot WR will be a need. Sanchez needs more options. I do agree the Front 7....OLB, DE/DT needs to be addressed and is a priority.
No, I think we were going to be planning on life w/o jenkins after this year anyway so we should be prepared.
With how this team is built and the philosophy of the FO, its possible they go after their one surefire top pick, and then fill holes in FA.
This group is going to take the best player in the first round and fill in from there. I think DL is the biggest need because of age and depth but if there is a safety that is ranked higher on their list in the first they will take him.
The Jets need to start getting more draft picks. They can't rely on 3 or 4 picks, trades and free agency to keep this team going year after year. I don't love the Patriots idea of trading down over and over because you miss out on talented players, but their last two drafts added a bunch of really young players, some still unproven that are providing cheap depth all over the field. It's my opinion that if the Jets are going to sustain this team and be competitive for the next 5 to 7 years that Tanny has to start accumulating draft picks and not trading them away for 1 or 2 year rentals. I think that Tannenbaum has done a great job getting building this team, but now that he has the talent to compete he needs to focus on the depth so that if we lose 3 or 4 players to injuries we aren't replacing them with Drew Coleman and David Clowney.
I cant answer this question now, maybe in 5 months but frankly if Pouha keeps playing at a good level, NT isnt a very urgent need
This could have been his last year anyway, so I think we would have had the same strategy for 2011 (hopefully there will be a 2011)
I voted other. As it stands wideout is a huge need with Edwards , Holmes and Brad Smith all free agents (Holmes and Brad Smith might be RFAs, depends on the new CBA). Now I don't like using high picks on wideouts because so many are busts, but they are incredibly shallow at wideout next year if they don't retain these guys.
Theres no doubt in my mind either Holmes (preferably) or Edwards is staying around. That being said I wouldn't want our first pick to be a WR unless a stud like Michael Floyd or Julio Jones drops to us but I'd be perfectly content with a player like Austin Pettis from Boise State in Rd. 2 as our complement to Holmes/Edwards. He's a perfect number 2 fit for our team in my mind. Quick, shifty, tough with great YAC ability. Won't be that deep threat burner but that's why we have Holmes. Keep JCo in the slot as our surehanded reliable guy and I'd be more than happy with that trio of wideouts.
I'm fine with drafting a slot receiver, as long as its in round 3 or later. I don;t see it as a major need with our style of play, which is supposed to be run first if our Backs hang on to the F'n ball =D.
Look for one of Holmes/Edwards and Smith to be retained. Smith has proven his value as a Wildcat QB, special teamer, WR depth guy. I highly doubt we let him go any time soon.
