This may sound stupid and I may get ripped apart for even starting this thread, but was losing last night and losing the way we did, a blessing in disguise? The Jets and Rex and getting ripped apart by the media this morning, ESPN, SI, you name it, Jets are on the front page with some cheesy headline saying that we basically suck. We were the hot commodity and on everyones radar. We Lost. We got embarrassed. And now we have been written off by the masses (after 1 game to boot). I think, starting in week 2, we are the underdogs again - we will be no longer viewed as the favorites to win it all and the best team in the AFC, etc.... Expectations have gone down the shitter. Players realize that their shit, really does in fact stink. Everybody, including us fans, have been knocked off that cloud that all the hype over the past 6 months has put us on. The pressure is off and we are suddenly back to being the Jets of 2009. And to that I say, watch the fuck out NFL.
Exactly.. Especially if Sanchez continues his stellar development and check-down skills.. Things should get a lot easier on the road against NE. Cromartie seems like the real deal, and Shaun Green will be in the running for NFL offensive MVP after what he showed against the Ravens. From one long suffering AFCE Phins fans to another, I couldn't be happier for your team... In fact I had visions of John Beck while watching Sanchez develop the John Beck patented "Deer in the Headlights" routine.. Poor clock management, 3 yard dump offs, but most importantly, no intensity whatsoever.. You guys better knock that Southern California out of him before it's too late. See ya'll in a couple weeks.
Couldn't disagree more...They talked a lot of shit all preseason and that doesn't go away with one loss. The pressure is going to continually mount on this team until they either back-up their talk or just utterly implode
I disagree with the pressure being off, but yes this could help moving forward, but only if we learn alot of lessons from it. Our defense needs to get its shit together on 3rd down. For fucks sake quit grabing receivers after 5 yards and get your head around on the ball. Our offense needs to open up the play book some. Ok a shit ton. Our players need to not fuck around, get to work, and realize if they want to win they are going to have to earn it no matter our talent level. Sanchez needs to trow a few blass down feild. He's not himself right now and its a coaching thing. If he does not rebound quickly this season will get ugly in a hurry.
While the offense was embarrassing, the defense (penalties aside) was alright... They aren't being written off yet, Harbaugh even said, "we will play these guys again" and Rex said "we expected a game like this" I assume he meant terrible offense and all D... That being said though maybe this game will be a good wake up call and we will see the Jets roll now... I hope at least.
Interesting! I have a totally opposite POV, the pressure is on, especially facing Brady, Welker and Co. on Sunday.
I agree with most of this except for the idea that the hype train has now moved beyond us. We're still the hunted, and even if we weren't after this game I promise you Rex will say something to get us back in the cross-hairs. That being said we beat ourselves with correctable errors. Penalties. Drops. Conservative game-planning. And as bad as some of these miscues were we lost to a Superbowl contender by one point. We were not beaten physically by the most physical team we'll see all season. We shut down a top 5 running back. Our special teams was absolutely lights-out. There are some positive takeaways from a miserable performance, and the worst of the worst from last night are fixable problems.
While I don't think that we ever "need" a loss, I do think that there may be a silver lining. The Jets really did go way overboard in buying into their own hype and I think that some of the players who had terrible games will bounce back in a big way next week. It just concerns me that this team looks so sloppy and undisciplined sometimes. The training camp goofiness makes for great TV but you can't help but wonder if there were a few too many cheeseburgers being eaten on the practice field this Summer.
There's no chance that the pressure Rex placed on this team, and the target, disappear after one loss, especially given the fact that our next 3 opponents are all division foes. We didn't need this loss, we didn't get anything out of this loss, it was a shit game and illustrated some serious needs for improvement.
That's my thought as well, I felt we needed to win this game because I felt it was highly possible we lose to the Pats. You never ever want to start off 0-2 especially with a team that beat us 3 in a row on the horizon. Week 2 is essentially a must win.
This loss was good for us Enough of the super bowl talk, time to take the one game at a time approach. This game showed us and Rex, that we need all facets of the team playing well, we can't expect the D to carry us all year.
I think this brought Rex back down to earth. The loss, the way they loss, and the stage they loss on.
It's also not the end of the world like many are making it out to be. Sure there were some really bad things, but it's week one. If the Jets win the next two games they are leading the division and have a 2-0 division record.
Of course it's not the end of the world but there is a lot more pressure on the Jets this week to win. I understand you have fans that think the sky is falling after this one loss. We won and have fans that think the sky is falling.
