More- SCOUTING THE JETS NFL SCOUTS AND OPPOSING COACHES SIZE UP NEW YORK “They added the third corner in the draft in Kyle Wilson, and boy, was that an impressive move. They now have three guys that can play man, and if you’re bringing the heat and pressuring, that gives the defensive coordinator confidence when you have three players that can cover like that. With the addition of Antonio Cromartie, you’re adding a very good press corner with size, length and ball skills. My concern is whether or not you’re getting Mr. 2007, or getting the player whose performance wasn’t similar to his 2007 performance. If you get the 2007 guy, this is a real good move. But if you’re getting the ’08 or ’09, guy, I think you might be disappointed. … Jason Taylor’s not what he once was, but as a third outside linebacker, he should be a good contributor for them. … They’re moving Vernon Gholston to defensive end, but that’s a desperation move. Sometimes pass-rushers take some time to develop, but two different coaches have figured out that maybe he just doesn’t have it.” [/QUOTE] http://www.athlonsports.com/pro-football/19246/nfl-2010-new-york-jets-preview I have the magazine version of this and they predicted us to lose in the AFC championship game to the Ravens. Quick Phin recap The enlarged bold text part above is the simplified prediction for our team. If Mark does those things we will be very tough to beat. Last year we allowed 14.8 PPG, and I think our defense will be vastly improved as scary as the may be Phin Trolls. Overall better understanding of the defense, the best starting CB tandem in the league, and a coach that can get his players to run through a burning building if he wanted. While I do agree with their AFC game matchup I do not agree on the outcome. I truly believe this is our year.
I think this is our year as well, everything is in place for a run, but I still don't consider this season SB or Bust, if we can make consecutive playoff appearances it's still a step in the right direction, we want to be SB contenders but we need to become a team that constantly makes the playoffs. The defense is elite and will be better then last year, especially if we stay healthy, and the offense is coming along as well, with a top offense line and a running game that can bruise defenses on a weekly basis we will be dangerous, winning the Lombardi depends on Sanchez not making mistakes and moving the chains This is our time, we need to take this opportunity and make the most of it, starting on Monday
I agree, it's not SB or bust. We have a good mixture of young and veteran talent. With Tanny at GM I seriously have no fear that we will enter into any season lacking talent. Woody has proven that he wants to win, it's a perfect combination.
I just don't understand why people think that if the Jets don't win the SB this year, that it's over for good for us, were going to be here for a while, we pretty much locked up our future in one summer cept for Harris. And as long as we have the Rex / Tanny / Woody regime bringing in players and buying into the system, were not going anywhere for a long fucking time, despite what anyone thinks the Jets are present as well as future contenders of the AFC. I believe in this team more then I have in the past decade +, for once we have an identity, can't really say that about the previous Jet teams of the past decade + I can't wait any longer for Monday
I think the SB or bust refers to the fact that we won't be going into next season with all of Cromartie, Edwards and Holmes. Next year we could potentially be weaker. Having said that, Sanchez, Wilson and the other young players will only get better with time.
Its a balance. The Jets will lose a skill position player, because they are going to want to resign Harris more than anything. The core five (Revis, Brick, Mangold, Harris, Sanchez) are here for 7+ years. Those players make others better, thus allowing the roster to change around them. New LBs, new WRs, and two new OL will come into play down the road. I do trust the FO to find these new players. As for the article, they are on point with everything. It was written before Ropati's injury, but they still touch on things that are missed by most 'tard sportswriters. DeVito got credit, that I like to see. I just can't imagine the salivation going on in defensive coaching meetings. I literally would go nuts at the fact that I can't think of enough formations and packages to put these players into. There just so much to do. Holy fuck what a great time to be a Jets fan.
Couple that with the fact that there may be no next year, and who knows what our team will look like, effectively, 2 years from now (typing this is really making me sad. I know we haven't even started this year yet, but if we don't have football next year, it will be so painful).
We'll get younger and continue to get FOOTBALL players not players that are drafted based on their combines and so on and so forth, if we keep Rex / Tanny / Woody for years on, we'll be contending for at least the next decade. We'll replace players in the draft and ultimately grab more efficient players for depth purposes No future is brighter then the Jets IMO, and honestly I couldn't say that before but now man with the continuity in the FO and players on the field that have potential to be the best in the league, being a Jets fan has never sounded so sweet.
At this point I dont care what any articles says. It doesnt make me feel better. What makes me feel better is the actual play of the field
That is the only reason I posted this. For some reason every article that gets written across the country that says anything negative about the Jets is posted. There are positive articles as well. Quite frankly the only opinion I care about is my own. Some Bills beat writer not picking us to win every game is really not a surprise.
Good stuff. Anyone else nervous or anxious for this season? Usually I'm extremely pumped up for the season to start and then reality crashes in. This season I'm more nervous than excited.
