It looks like Danny Woodhead is making the team. As much of an underdog as he's been because of his size, he's probably less of a longshot than Wayne Chrebet was in 1995. Chrebet didn't play RB or special teams and I believe had a less distinguished college career, also at a small school. Chrebet had the advantage of walking onto a team so bad that he managed to make it and start in his first year, while Woodhead had a much more talented group to work his way into over two training camps. I don't know how much action Woodhead will get, but watching him and seeing how the players and coaches have accepted him makes me think if he does get some time we could possibly be looking at the next Wayne Chrebet story regarding the Jets. Of course from there he'd have a long way to go to match what Chrebet ultimately ended up doing as a Jet. What are your thoughts on this comaprison?
They're both white and from non D1 schools. That's it. Danny Woodhead was drafted, Wayne was a walk on. Danny Woodhead was a RB in college, Wayne was a WR.
The comparison has been made, but there's really not much to it as of right now other than that they're small, quick, white overachievers. Danny so far doesn't have nearly the hands Chrebet had. Not even in the same ballpark. I've seen him drop easy catches, although you've got to believe he's catching the ball better if he made the active roster again. Having said that, Danny's more versatile than Chrebet was, which would be a huge plus in his corner. He's a nice emergency option at multiple positions.

Yup. Frankly, comparing Danny Woodhead to Wayne Chrebet from a football standpoint is insulting the man who caught the second most passes of any Jet in history.

Edge goes to Wayne, he was one of the best receivers in the history of the team while Danny Woodhead has gotten about 20 career touches. That's how I see it.
At this stage of Chrebet's career he was regarded about the same or less than Woodhead, which is where I'm getting the comparison--certainly not meant to be an insult of any kind to Chrebet. If anything it's a credit to him when you see where he came from and how his career ended up with the Jets. I pointed out the obvious differences in position and the talent levels of the teams, I'm not saying it's the same scenario. I'm asking if when you look at Woodhead, the way some of us older guys saw Chrebet come in, do you see the same thing? I'm sure if TGG existed back in 1995 the draft dorks among us would also be writing off Chrebet and saying he'd never be anything, the same way Mel Kiper did at that time.
and tough little muthas. Unlike Chrebet, Woodhead runs the ball up the gut against the big dudes and has huge balls to do that. Taking nothing away from Wayne because the man put his LIFE on the line in some games, but Woodhead will have a much tougher time making a name for himself. The character and drive which Danny-Boy has shown is impressive, and his refusal to quit has earn t him his job, and rightly so. Can we move on over his colour? I really don't see black and white, just people.
All that matters is that Woodhead is the "Eagle Killer" I hate Philadelphia and all of their shitty sports teams, along with their trash bag fan population.
Then where are the Larry Taylor - Wayne Chrebet comparisons? Short, overachieving receiver. They at least play the same position.
