Exhausted by the distraction and lack of effort from Albert Haynesworth, the Washington Redskins have once again gauged trade interest in the defensive tackle from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, according to team sources. It is at least the second occasion the Redskins have had discussions regarding Haynesworth with the Titans since Mike Shanahan was named Washington's coach in January. The Titans definitely would welcome back Haynesworth, a team source said, but maintained that the Redskins' asking price was still too high. The Redskins are believed to want at least two draft picks for Haynesworth. A Redskins spokesman said he was unaware of any trade discussions involving Haynesworth but sources say the dialogue occurred over the weekend. Haynesworth has been a thorn in Shanahan's side since the coach took the Redskins job. Haynesworth drew Shanahan's ire by staying away from the offseason program and later lobbied for a trade because he didn't want to play nose tackle in the team's new 3-4 defense. Shanahan gave Haynesworth a chance to leave -- provided Haynesworth didn't stay around to accept a $21 million contract bonus on April 1. Haynesworth took the bonus. Haynesworth also skipped a mandatory minicamp and was fined. When he showed up for training camp, he was made to pass a conditioning test before he could practice. After several failed attempts and several days of idleness because of a sore knee, he finally passed the test on the 10th day of camp. Haynesworth then missed another week of training camp due to illness. Shanahan gave varying explanations for Haynesworth's idleness each day. The coach initially said Haynesworth "just was sick," then said the cause was dehydration, then finally said it was "more of a headache than anything else." As the most highly sought free agent of 2009, Haynesworth signed a $100 million contract with the Redskins, including $41 million in guaranteed money. Haynesworth will earn a guaranteed $3.6 million in 2010 and $5.4 million in 2011. Haynesworth has collected approximately $32 million of his guaranteed money in his one-plus season with Washington.
This guy is the biggest piece of shit the NFL has to offer. How hard is it to be motivated, positive teammate a year into a 100 Million Dollar contract??? He underachieved for his first 5 years in the league. Then he gets into the contract year, and starts to play some ball. Anyone remember when he stomped on a guys unprotected face with his cleat??? Anyone remember when he paralyzed someone in a car accident when he crashed into a guy while driving over 100 mph? There are lawsuits against him, arrest warrants, you name it. The fact that this guy isn't a janitor somewhere is a travesty. He is a total, you know what.
Haynesworth's been just terrible for the skins. He's really fucked them over hard with his bullshit. If you can get a good trade for him then do it as soon as possible.
I've kind of enjoyed Shanahan's handling of him. If it didn't affect the team, it would be fun to watch him toy with Haynesworth all year and not let him play. The sad thing is ultimately, he'll fade away and retire somewhere quietly with millions in the bank. It would be funny if they put him on the practice squad. If it weren't such a distraction, it would be fun to watch Shanahan hurl insults daily about him being fat and lazy.
The sad part of all this is this guy is ALL about the $ and I really don't think he gives a shit if he plays or not because if he did he would have gotten out of Washington when he could have. A hugh chunk of his contract is gauranteed so no matter what Shanahan does to fuck with him he still laughs all the way to the bank.
The contract isn't that bad now that he's had the 21 mil gauranteed. I think its now a 4 year 16 million thing. I agree though, you figure not many teams will be willing to take him off their hands - why wouldn't they jump at the chance? Maybe they feel like their investment hasn't paid it's worth? I don't know what would encourage them to think that he will have an epiphany and suddenly change?
as much as Haynesworth is a POS, there is a reason why the Titans weren't going to pay him what he was asking for and the Redskins were too f'ing stupid to understand why. he was never worth what he was paid, so the Redskins deserve to write that check and watch him lollygag.
3rd/5th is the standard Kris Jenkins/Shaun Rogers price tag. He has a great contract to pick up so the Titans should be more than willing to give up at least that amount. I think the Redskins are playing for higher picks or someone picking up $--they should ask Haynesworth to give some back in exchange for a trade...
I'm torn on the Haynesworth issue, he's a huge dick, but at the same time he has a point. He signd with the skins when they played a 4-3, where he could play his natural position, he is now upset that he is being asked to play what is for all purposes a very different position. Should he suck it up and play... probably, but at the same time forcing him to play a position at which he is far less effective is a sign of poor management and coaching by the skins

Haynesworth can be a bad guy and the Redskins can have made mistakes. the two aren't mutually exclusive. Haynesworth signed a contract with the Redskins under the guise that he would play to the best of his ability. if he doesn't perform under the new system that is a repercussion of the Redskins changing the system to one he is not adept to. if Haynesworth refuses to play hard because he is angry, he is an asshole. see, both are at fault in this scenario, so yes, Haynesworth is an asshole and that doesn't change because the Skins are imbeciles.
