In light of Woody Johnson's visit to Florida to help jumpstart the Darrelle Revis contract negotiations, if figured I'd try and gauge the GangGreen Forum's feeling on our owner. I'm an 80's guy so I remember when Leon Hess was the owner. He was the one who moved the Jets to the Meadowlands and made us tenants of the Giants. Woody has recently attempted to break away from that "tenant" stigma and has tried to give the New York Jets their own identity, separate from our crosstown rivals to remain nameless. Although he made mistakes and aggravated numerous long time season ticket holders by forcing PSL's down our throats, he has done right by the Jets and seemingly has hired a nucleus of reputable executives in the front office and coaching ranks. We have all seen Woody on "Hard Knocks" repeatedly which leads me to believe he is a hands on owner no where he hasn't been in the past. Once he was able to grasp what being an owner was all about, he made changes accordingly. I'm giving him a thumbs up for his recent body of work. I'd like to hear what everyone else feels.
Good owner. PSL victims will not agree, but he's made the Jets relevant since the team has been under his ownership and now they are at the forefront of the NFL. He's done everything you could ask for as a fan. There are far worse owners in the NFL. Woody is not elite yet, but he's Good. He brought this team from laughingstock to relevant contender. He gets a B+ in my book.
I like beer while I decide good vs indifferent over the next couple of years. I certainly wouldn't say he's bad.
My answer to this question will depend almost entirely on how long he keeps Rex around, and how good of a job he does at making sure the new Meadowlands becomes Jets Stadium.
if you're a mets fan or islanders fan, your vote better be fuckin yes good owner woody is a great owner. f that. he's involved but not overly involved to the point where's it a detriment. cares about the team, will do anything it takes to win and opens up his wallet a lot more than 99% of NFL owners. And he's hired the right people very grateful to have woody as an owner. if you vote no or are indifferent, you probably also don't remember the Leon Hess days very well or aren't old enough to.
Going forward pretty much no stadium will have anything to do with a team name anyways. They all sell naming rights to re-coup money.
Parcells made the JETS relevant, Woody has kept it going though at the EXPENSE of the fans. While one would say he is a good owner since he has done things some fans might like, He has also done some things some fans just hate. Do you know how many fans were waiting for the JETS to have their own stadium? He had the opportunity but instead he made the business decision that was best for his pockets and NOT the fans. That leaves a bad taste for many. Fans want an owner who actually care about the team and Fans, Woody does NOT, He only cares about profit... It just so happens that We both want a team that wins.
lmao. Parcells left a long time ago. Woody hired everyone else. And Woody does care about a winning team. Teams can have losing seasons and still make plenty of money. And in terms of expense of fans - the way Hess did things was not typical of an NFL owner, but the fans loved it because things were cheap.... and the team was an embarrassment around the league. And what Owner does everything right for the fans? Expect them to annoy you and hurt your wallet. This isn't a sport first, it's a business. And the WSS was never going to happen as long as Cablevision wasn't dismantled by way of military coup.
It doesn't matter when Parcells left, he was the one who changed the JETS organization from that point...or as you said "made them relevant" WSS? Cablevision had almost zero "real impact" on the WSS...it was all fluff. The WSS was shot down by a politician looking for sympathy votes..you need to brush up on the facts a little there. I'm talking about Flushing That was the real Option for the JETS to get theur own stadium but NOPE! he chose to go back to Jersey...the fact is his stadium was 100% a business decision. FTR, I never said Hess was the greatest owner but at least he cared about the team and fans.... "This isn't a sport first, it's a business." and that's why so many are turned off ....which is the point I basically made in my post... -I said: "He only cares about profit...It just so happens that We both want a team that wins." -U say: "Woody does care about a winning team" It seems all your doing is twisting words to make the same point in your favor. You've pretty much made the same points I already made...
But you made points that want it both ways as a fan. It just doesn't work that way. I heard about the Cablevision thing through people, so if that's wrong, then my bad. I heard they wouldn't give up real estate and it sunk the deal. And if Woody cared about only profit, this team wouldn't have the FAs it has. He would never trade up for a QB and pay him 50 mil guaranteed. Its not coincidental. I agree with your main points but its the small stuff I disagree on.
They need to convince JetBlue to buy the naming rights. That would actually be a cool stadium name, the ONLY cool company-named stadium. Adelphia Coliseum once had a claim, but alas, no more. As for Woody, I knkow he takes a lot of flak, but its obvious to me that he only cares about winning. He spends money, he is involved, he doesn't make knee-jerk fan-relations reactions. I am all-for Woody Johnson (no homo).
He's a great owner, just look at the coaches and the staff he has brought in. As an organization, Jets is one of the best in NFL right now.
Woddy is the opposite of leon hess. hess was a terrible owenr for the on foeld product but was great for the fans as he kept ticket prices down and was the last owner to make us buy preseason tickets. Woddy is great for the on field product but is a terrible owner for the loyal fans by fleecing us w/ constantly rising prices which culminated in the ultimate slap in the face with PSLs.
I'm a PSL victim but I still say Woody's a good owner. He put the right people in place to make the moves to make this team respectable.
As others have already noted, if you're a season ticket holder you might not like Woody very much, but the vast majority of fans of the team (including me) don't have season tickets; for us, I would say that it's pretty clear that he's a good owner.
I love Woody!!! I too am a PSL buyer, but you can not question his drive to win. A billionaire flew down to make nice with a player. Who knows how many owners would've done that, I'm just glad we have one that will.
