Yeah it was just a good all-around deal for both sides. The Jets have Revis, he has a nice bump and some guarantees, and neither side needs to worry about a holdout again until 2013-ish.
Well you were right on the money with your time line some posts back. Yes if the next CBA is constructed the same way then DR will get at least 1 more bite of the sugar apple so long as his play stays at the 09 level
no, this is better for the Jets this year, next year, the year after that and the year after that, and more than likely the next 5 year after that when he signs an additional extension. this isn't a handicapping deal, it is a fair deal for the best cb in the league. if you aren't willing to pay the best player in his position $11 million a year, we can all be thankful you're not in Tanny's position.
My predicition: After signing Revis, the TT forum re-opens on the same day......Earth explodes with flaming keyboards.
haha Think there might be a bit of bad blood at first. Chances are all will be forgotten fairly quickly though.
Or to put it another way...he already had 21 million in guarantees so for another 11 million the Jets will hopefully have some harmony for four years although I wouldn't hold my breath. The Jets are the winners in this without a doubt.
Hay guyz i made a vid I hope ya'll like it.
sounds to me like the conversation went like this. Tanny: Jerry, how are ya? So just geeting a feeler on what you would offer for Revis if we decided to make him available. Jones: I would give you our first in 2011 Tanny: thats it? Jones: yeah, isn't that enough? Tanny: hahaha no, have a nice day Tanny: Andy how are ya? Getting ideas on the market for Darrelle Revis... What would you guys offer? Reid: I would give you Kurt Coleman and our second in 2011. Tanny: who the hell is that? Reid: he's the guy who had two scoop and scores against you the other day. Tanny: Hate to break it to you Andy, we are looking more for like two firsts, and your top CB.... Reid: click
Revis caved. He held out for an extra $12M over 2 years. Way to go Gilbert. I'm sure his snake of agents was pissed they weren't there...
Anyone wanna bet the Jets offered the same or a similar deal weeks ago and his douchebag agents declined?
On that note, my father the cynic (and I'm sure more than a few fans) said after the first week of Hard Knocks that a deal was struck then, but they would wait until the eve of the final hard knocks to announce/complete/sign for the huge ratings bump it would make. Who knows. Who cares. Our secondary is whole!
