I am as excited as everyone but I am curious. 1. How did 800k or whatever from Richardson/Coles make a difference, was he really not gonna sign for only $31mil guaranteed? 2. If this deal is only 11mil per yr anyway, how was this not already offered months ago? 3. Why didnt Ryan talk Revis into logic months ago? My only thought is that Revis gave a holdout deadline to his agent, and was never going to holdout into the season
I would guess at some point on Saturday Johnson said "this is it. We aren't going any higher. We don't expect you here this year anyway. Do what you have to do but we are ready to move on without you." The difference is this time he believed him. Nothing EVER changed from the Jets side.
It has to be all the guarnteed money. If he gets hurt like L. Washington he still gets 32 million over the next few years if he never plays at the same level or again.
richardson has guaranteed money. Jackson will get cut and the jets will try and pick up T rich after week 1
I wonder if Tanny saying "we are ready to move on without him" made a difference. Its like how whenever Jets say "no way this guy is cut, " hes cut
Oh, I know. But Richardson isn't making shit. I'm just surprised they couldn't find a way around that.
The difference? as far as I am aware, this is the first time Revis has met with Jets execs without his agents present since the holdout began, and Rex was able to convince him to change his mind and come back and play for a championship. Revis didnt go to the roscoe diner, it was just agents and tanny. This time it was rex and woody vs. Gilbert and Revis. Rex wins, and Revis comes back into the fold for 11.5 a year with nearly 3/4 of it guaranteed.
Revis was looking for his way back. I've been saying for weeks he was going to be back before the season, right up until yesterday. There was no way he missed games, but sending Rex gave him the perfect way to return. I'm glad the Jets held firm through this and got the number they wanted.
Sounds like his agents were uncommunicative nor willing to negotiate in good faith, as well as uncle Sean being way to deeply involved. The only guy who could sway Revis was Rex. Thank god for our coach!
You definitely called it. I'm surprised he took the deal the Jets offered. I figured it would take a few games for him to come off the top demands. I'm very happy he did though. Even if they worked out a one-year fix the issue would have re-emerged next year.
This is how you get things done in the real world. Add one Rex, subtract all agents, mix with mom and a dash of motivation get Rvis back in fold. The three keys to success: How could you not to play for Rex come week 1? You will always say the truth and be more humble when your mom is their watching you? Best of all it was the first time Revis talked for himself instead of letting his greedy agents talk for him.
I definitely prefer the shorter deal, and I know you've mentioned you do as well. I thought it made sense for him to take a short term deal close to his deadline, but for some reason I kept thinking he'd want the 10 year deal. A four year deal for a corner is SO much better for the team, and we now have Brick, Revis, and Mangold staggered with the right guy on the short end. He can't impede major contract negotiations again.
Revis finally realized that it was a no win for him. Simple logic is that it is better to take a year at $11.5m than a year at $0. Revis will claim victory becasue he said it was about the guaranteed money all along. He will deny that he wanted 16M/yr as opposed to the guaranteed $.
all the idiots like mike fatchesca who were running their mouths w/bs about how revis had so much leverage in this, can now STFU. They got the sleazebag agents out of the room. Mr. Johnson, Rex, Revis & his family sat down and got a deal done in recognition of the fact that Revis didn't have the leverage that his agents claimed he had and that he obviously deserves to be highly compensated. The 32M guaranteed was a major concession to Revis by Mr. Johnson so that he can take care of his family for generations. Good for him. This could have been done in April.
