I thought Matt Kroul was really impressive in pre-season. He's a valuable depth player because of his versatility - he can play nose and end. Douglas over Dixon would be a pretty smart move though.
I would love to see Douglas back on the Jets. However, aren't the Phins pretty thin on the front 7 with all of their injuries? Seems odd that he would have been cut. I guess he's the type of player that plays well in Rex's system.
Meh... the Jets are tight with their money (rightly so) and wouldn't want to risk throwing some away...
I don't really see why a few 100k is a big deal in an uncapped year, but the Jets seem to want to free up as much money as possible. This is why Coles was cut, and Coleman and Clemens had to take paycuts
It's a matter of guarantees. All guaranteed and future guaranteed money has to fit under last year's cap. We need every penny to pledge to Revis.
Are you sure this rule has to do with veterans signing one year deals? The deal isnt actually guaranteed, it just becomes guaranteed after the first game. I dont think that's the same thing as if Revis signed a new deal and all the fully guaranteed money he gets as to fit under last years cap.
I was saying that's why we'd go with younger and cheaper instead of Douglas. It's why we cut Coles and said we'd bring him back after Week 1.
I understand what you meant and I'm disagreeing with your understanding of the rule. I dont think contracts that are not guaranteed that later become guaranteed (after a Vet plays in week 1) factor into the rule.
Ah. Got it. That very well could be, but then why the discussions involving Coles and Richardson and their one year contracts?
