That'a a good deal but it would also have to be to the right team. There are certain teams we won't trade him to. Unfortunately, I don't believe that anyone is going to offer that ransom and then pay a cornerback who had one great year under Rex's system quarterback money.
I really want to have some of whatever you're smoking, because this one one of the craziest posts i've seen in a long time, since when does adding a pro-bowl cornerback ASSURE anyone of winning the Super Bowl...wacky post man...
Who would have ever dreamed we'd be asking this question? I'm thinking we get a deal done and he's a Jet for life but i'm not sure if it's my heart or my head doing the thinking?
I think the answer to this question is none. The NFL just doesn't work like that. If it did the Broncos would have won a Super Bowl off of the Champ Bailey trade after acquiring him in 2004. They went 10-6 playoffs in 2003, acquired Bailey and went 10-6 playoffs in 2004. Then they had their one great year going 13-3 in 2005 before declining thereafter. The Broncos got to the AFC Championship game in 2005. Champ Bailey started at CB for them. They lost 34-17 with Big Ben going 21-29-275-2-0. Cornerbacks just aren't that impactful if other things aren't topflight first. The Jets went 9-7 in 2008. Then Revis had his great season and what happened? They went 9-7.
Revis abilities are best used in Rex's system, we can't have a CB taking up 10-15% of our cap for the next 5-10 yrs, I'll say it again his agents are greedy assholes that couldn't give a shit if the jets ever won another game otherwise a super bowl
Well the teams i listed were all ones who are always on the brink anyway. I mean teams like the Ravens their defense would simply be historic with him. Especially since the only real hole on their team is corner. Yeah I know none of these teams would be guaranteed to win it THIS year, but I think with how stacked their rosters are this would be the piece to put them over the top. The closest thing I could compare it to is like adding Lebron to the heat. I know football is nothing like basketball and that ever year there are a ton of teams who have a shot at winning, but I honestly think adding that much talent on the most important defensive position in the game to these teams who are already up there just puts them way over the top. And they might not win it in year 1, but over the first couple years I think the world would be shocked if it just doesnt get there.
Now look at these teams you've just mentioned. The Ravens. The Chargers. The Colts. The Steelers. The Patriots. The Packers. The Vikings. (We'll leave the Saints off the list, for now). Not a single one of these teams would jettison the picks or the money you've mentioned. All these teams, but especially the Colts, Steelers and Patriots, know that you build a team through the draft for longterm success. That's why they're good franchises. Your "brink teams" and basically the rest of the NFL are a bunch of also-ran's precisely because they don't adhere to the sound business practices that have helped the teams in question win Super Bowls. The Vikings would never make the Revis trade you've proposed, because they've already learned from experience. They thought they were getting a Revis-caliber player when they mortgaged their future for Herschel Walker. They regret that decision, I assure you, as would any team foolish enough to sell the farm for Revis.
Give it up your argument doesn't hold water. First, the Jets would never trade him to the Ravens. Second, to compare him to Lebron is ridiculous.
Well the teams he mentioned all have on thing in common, large sums of money tied up in one player. The thing is that one player is a QB, which is about the one or 2 positions that deserve cap stretching treatment.
Kit Ramsey: "White boys always get the Oscar. It's a known fact. Did I ever get a nomination? No! You know why? Cause I hadn't played any of them slave roles, and get my ass whipped. That's how you get the nomination. A black dude who plays a slave that gets his ass whipped gets the nomination, a white guy who plays an idiot gets the Oscar. That's what I need, I need to play a retarded slave, then I'll get the Oscar."
All I know is Jets need him & he needs to get his head right & come play some football. Takke a big 1 year salary & figure it all out in off-season. He & Jets have made there points.....Now leta get down to business. If all else fails....Have Joe Willie go talk with him...if he don't listen to Joe, then screw Revis.
The Jets offered to give him an extra $3 million for free, so his base salary would be $4 million and they would redo the contract at the end of the year and he said no. that would have put him at $24 million for the three years just to start plus you add in the original bonus he recieved which is counted over the life of the contract and it would be actually be over $30 million to for the 3 years. This foool wants to keep all the original bonus for the work he has done in the first three years, scrap the contract and give him another bunos in a contract that would average $16 million a year and have the contract garranteed. I think he needs a drug test. Look at Denver, they gave a new contract to their DE and he is out the full season with an injury now. The Jets played hardball with the other guys this year and in other years, so play it with this smuck. Sit or play and by the way nothing is garranteed anymore since you weren't in on time. Let his agent know he should start looking for a team if he can find one that first would pay his ass $16 million a year (not likely) and second would give the Jets two 1st rounders (required).
Hes done, he will not play for the Jets again, he is a stubborn pos and he has no concern for the team concept, if taking 12 mill a year isn't enough and you feel no obligation to your current contract and your teammates, then let him sit.
I would love to be wrong on this, but voted that he sits the season. Just before I voted, I read this article....... At the end of the day this is Revis' best chance to win a SB, maybe the only one in his career. Who knows, injury and opportunity all have a part to play and right now, both parties are gambling with that.
the difference is that lebron can command whatever he wants from any team b/c he is the best player in a sport where 1 person can dictate the difference between being a good and bad team, Revis is not.
Best CB can stop Best QB. Revis is arguably the best CB right now, maybe even in the decade, although hes really hurting himself. Although hes a quality player, our secondary have been practising in a particular way without him, and there will be factors if and when he returns. Players now having to adjust on the fly, how fit and match ready is Revis? The first time our D gets torched and we end up losing a game because of it, this one will land squarely on the shoulders of Revis. Right now I like J Taylor 100% more than Revis, and thats saying something.
Wrong best corner cannot stop the best QB. He can stop any receiver but we all saw what manning did to us. Revis can only cover one guy.
What I meant. Cro is now our #1 and cannot do what Revis did last year, leaving the whole secondary a whole lot more vulnerable. With Revis taking out the #1 WR, our #s 2, 3 and 4 CBs should be good enough against most other teams WRs
