Manish: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2010/09/jets-53-man-roster-taking-shap.html The Jets completed their cuts this morning. According to sources, the following players were waived: WR Larry Taylor, FB Jason Davis, S Emanuel Cook, LB Brashton Satele, C Robby Felix, S Keith Fitzhugh, LB Tim Knicky, DE Jason Lamb, LB Boris Lee, DT Ty Steinkuhler, OL Chet Teofilo, DT Martin Tevaseu, LB Ricky Foley, DB Bo Smith, WR Brooks Foster, T Dan Gay, OL Michael Turkovich, LB Cory Reamer, OL Charlie Tanner. Rex Ryan said Thursday night that LB Josh Mauga and S Don Warren would not make the team, either. Some of the released players will certainly land on the practice squad after they clear waivers. Also keep in mind that somebody will be cut once Darrelle Revis returns to the roster. When that will be, of course, is uncertain. So, here's the 53-man roster. Yeah, we'll absolutely keep 6 CBs. I don't know that Woodhead has to battle for anything right now. He's an emergency option in 2 different spots. In other words, if there's an injury at WR/RB, he can step in for the remainder of a game. In the case of something serious, I think we'd look for a better short term/long term replacement option, but he'd at least be able to fill in in the slot or out of the backfield for the end of a game. His versatility is keeping him on the roster. I'd guess Clowney holds a spot for Coles who holds a spot for Holmes, but that seems like an awful lot of rotation just to cut Coles. Washington makes that Week 4 decision more interesting.
Offense: QB: Sanchez, Brunell, Clemens OT: Ferguson, Woody, Hunter OG: Slauson, Moore, Ducasse C: Mangold, Turner RB: Greene, Tomlinson, McKnight, Woodhead, Washington WR: Edwards, Cotchery, B. Smith, Clowney, (Holmes) TE: Keller, Hartsock, Mulligan, Cumberland Defense: NT: Jenkins, Pouha DE: Ellis, DeVito, Gholston, Kroul ILB: Scott, Harris, Laury, Cummings OLB: Pace, Thomas, Taylor, Westerman CB: Cromartie, Wilson, Lowery, Coleman, Cole, Jackson, (Revis) S: Pool, Leonhard, E. Smith, Ihedigbo Special Teams: K: Folk P: Weatherford LS: Purdum Wonder if we'll be interested in Jarvis Green as a 3-4 DE...
Jarron Gilbert was officially released this morning by the Bears too. Should be interesting to see where he ends up.
I'm glad Brian Jackson made the team, I know Hard Knocks viewed him as an asshole but I like his potential. Against Philly he had 3 PD's and 1 FF
I wouldn't mind seeing Green brought in to be part of the rotation granted the only guy on the dl you could toss (unless green can play ST...) is gholston, so i doubt it
Jeremy Jarmon looks like he's going to be cut by Washington as well. He looked pretty good against us in the 3rd preseason game.. He was a good prospect coming out of Kentucky just a year ago, could be worth a look.
I can't believe we kept 7 backs and 4 TEs, it just seems excessive. Also, that CB depth behind Cromartie/Wilson looks pretty weak, we're going to be in trouble if you-know-who doesn't come back soon.
Maybe I put a little too much stock on that youtube clip of Gilbert jumping out of a pool, but I was high on the kid heading into the draft last year. I still wouldn't mind Rex and the Jets giving him a shot.
I like that we kept both Washington and Woodhead on the team. We're definitely going to be a run heavy team. Clowney is gone once Santonio comes back. Speaking of cuts, what do you guys think of maybe claiming Myron Rolle off waivers?
i don't think rolle may be ready for the NFL, what he needs is a year or two on somebodys practice squad first. but bringing in guys like gilbert and freddie barnes(ps) would be pretty good ideas in my mind. Remember rex ran gilberts pro day, so if rex doesnt go grab him a year later, i don't think that gilbert can play for ryan.
as all the cuts come in from around the league, don't be shocked if we drop some of the guys we have now for some of the guys dropped from elsewhere right now. the more i think about it, on Jarvis green, the only way he ends up in NY is if we bring him in after week 1. That seems to be our policy on aging vets this year.
