It sounds more to me like team Revis said something to Cole. If that's the case, so much for the media blackout.

    Isn't Cole a friend of S&F?

If I'm thinking of the right guy then Cole is being a douchey stooge

This is actually a decent point:

I still think 16 mil/year is insane tho

IMO, the Jets never should have agreed to the blackout. What good did it do them? It only helped S&F, for the Jets it was nothing more than a sign of good faith towards Revis that there wouldn't be any more spin against him from the organization.

Here is part of what Cole said.

Rotoworld was quoting Cole with the "ever again" to make it seem as if Revis said it.

    Link to the full column.

    Cole Article

I thought this part was funny.

I really don't think we're going to go through the process of Darrelle Revis threatening to leave the Jets, because he has no way to do that except via retirement or moving to another sport like basketball.

If he really does decide to give up on football though it's going to get very ugly for a month or two as his camp tries to make an option available in football and discovers that the Jets have that exit completely blocked.

Seems clear enough to me that Jason Cole is getting his Revis news the same place the rest of us are - Granny Revis.

Nice work, you eager little cub reporter. Now get the fuck out there and put the NEW in nooze.

At what point do we gather up torches and pitchforks and head to S&F headquarters?

Maybe, but at the same time if he has no interest in ever playing for the Jets again than why hold onto a valuable asset like that? There will be a GM that'll see Revis as the final piece to their puzzle no matter his price.

Of course we're not at that point yet, but if it gets to that point you have to think about moving on.

I really don't think any team would be willing to offer him 16 million/year long term. It's a ridiculous demand.

This sort of reminds me of the Deion Branch thing from a few years back. Started off friendly enough, turned sour, and eventually got crazy ugly when the Patriots decided to get cute and allow Branch to go out and search for trade value. Pitchforks and torches doesn't sound all that bad as a second option. Can't do nothing forever.

If the Jets could trade Revis in an extended impasse and get real value I think they probably would. They'll only embargo his football career if they sense that he's determined to force his way off the team in a manner that they cannot get value for him, like by sticking to the Aso level demands as his agents discuss contracts with other teams.

Yes, this is the primary problem. Nobody is going to pay Revis that kind of money after also paying several picks and players for him. On the open market he wouldn't get that kind of money unless he went to an unstable team like Washington or a desperate one like Detroit. Even then he likely wouldn't get the top level that he is demanding. Washington has just been burned badly by Albert Haynesworth, they're going to think long and hard before handing a bunch of guaranteed money to a player again.

BTW, the bet the Jets are obviously making is that the overall player compensation structure is going to take a significant hit as a result of the labor negotiations next year. If they thought players were going to get a bigger share of the pie they might get out front with Revis and meet him halfway between the two offers. Instead they likely think the players overall share of revenues will decline, and with it the ability to pay silly sums of money to individual players who are not QB's.

They should let him seek a trade. Revis, F&S, go ahead and find the team that's willing to pay you $16 M/year long term - we'll see if we can get fair trade in return.

I'll bet they'd come back with their tail between their legs or threaten the entire NFL to "NEVER PLAY FOOTBALL AGAIN, EVER".

Have to put better parameters on it than the Patriots did with Branch. That strategy backfired on them.

I don't remember the deal too well, but I seem to remember the Pats getting compensated pretty well for a slightly above average receiver?

Paul Allen has got a lot of money. He's another place Revis might wind up if he were on the open market, but probably not in a trade situation.

I don't see it happening it either but you never know. I'm just saying, as much as we want Revis here it doesn't make sense to just let him rot. If he has no interest in playing for the Jets than at least try to get something for him

What could we expect to get back in a trade for Revis? I don't even want to think about this but if they have to trade him and they find a team willing to pay him more then the Jets what would you ask for in a trade?
