That part was interesting to watch. For an uncapped year, Tannenbaum's budget seems to work an awful lot like a salary cap. Not unsmart, I suppose, but some of the mechanics come off odd. Telling Laveranues that you have to cut him to keep money available to sign Revis sat better with him than I would ever expect. They essentially told him that the plan was to bring him back, if at all, for only four games. That shouldn't go down as easily in 2010.

Faneca was excellent in Run blocking but his pass blocking was poor and another year on means it won't be any better

Slauson looks good in rb and currently okay in pass blocking except for one play where the player went low he has upside and can only improve. This debate has only escalated following from the HBO editing which makes it look like its a shitload worse than it is.

Ducasse is a big raw lump of clay whom with a full 12-16 months of coaching will be a great RT!

I think is very smart to work like there will be a cap next year b/c there will be but for guys that won't be here what's the harm in paying them for this year? Lagging PSL sales for a Stadium we never wanted seems to be hampering our ability to want to spend. I don't like that.

He only seems to have a problem with fully guaranteed vet money. In that case, all fully guaranteed money has to fit under last year's cap. Cutting LC and bringing him back means we have more money in future guarantees for Revis. I'd imagine that was the reason for the Richardson conversation.

Tanny seemed to want Richardson to go the LC route to become more flexible in the DR negotiations. The problem isn't overall money to pay, it's having money under the rules for his contract. The prior Revis camp complaints about "no fully guaranteed money" were seemingly part true.

What do you expect from someone who spent the last decade in Miami?
Maybe he can call in a favor from his sister.
I don't know man, you better sell all your tickets below face value in case he doesn't come back.
Let's see where Jones and Faneca lead their teams this year and we'll resume this discussion then.
If Slauson is known to anyone it's Callahan, who unquestionably had a hand in making him a Jet in the first place.

It doesn't matter where Jones and Faneca lead their teams this year. They aren't on contending teams.

Slauson is known to Callahan but he is an unknown at the NFL level. I hope he's great but he has been shaky in preseason whcih is understandable but we cannot have that carry over into the real games.

Better to get rid of a deteriorating player 1 year early than to keep him 3 years too long like we did with several players for half of the last decade.

Seems obvious at this point that Slauson will start... he is by far the lesser of the two evils.... Vlad is very raw though, I think a bit too raw for a 2nd round pick IMO, at least from what we've seen so far.

Hopefully Callahan can work some magic on him.

You could say that about Sanchez as well.

Slauson has PART time NFL experince in THREE games. I understand one cannot compare between the positions, it's watermelons to grapes. But we have to expect Slauson to make some mistakes. Just as we expect Sanchez to make some as well.

I want to see how much time Slauson gets tonight. Ducasse might get Brunell or Clemens killed. That's where it is.

I normally agree but this team is set up to win now and if problems at LG keep that from happening it will turn out to have been a bad move.

Sanchez has started for a full season(15 games to be exact) and 3 postseason games on the road. It's not a valid comparison comparing him and Slauson.

I don't expect perfection from Slauson but he can't get our QB knocked out for the year either.

I'm comforted in the fact that Callahan actually knows Slauson for maybe 6+ years already and most likely was the guy who signed off on this...

Logic dictates that if you cut a legend like Faneca, you ask your OL coach 1st if he can successfully fill that spot...

I don't get that either. The main purpose for Coles was to fill the gap for Holmes the first four games, but they're releasing him for 1/4 of that to save some money in an uncapped year. I get the feeling that Tannenbaum has a hard budget cap to present to Johnson which he has to be under and includes Revis.

Yeah, Coles' length of time in camp seems to bridge the gap between "enough practice to contribute" and "enough time to latch on to another team". I think we're counting on a low interest level, although the Pats would be a team to watch with the Holt injury.

Richardson would have been a terrible gamble. Someone else would have picked him up, and we'd have lost a sure thing at FB right now.

Watermelons to grapes is always a valid comparison.

I know everybody is making a big deal out of the Slauson play but when I think of it, (because the Jets have final say on what is shown) could they (the coaching staff) been using "Hard Knocks" to send a message along the lines of having that offensive lineman start a fight with ghost? Kinda like a wake up call saying "Hey, you had better pay attention or your going to get our franchise QB killed!" Maybe they felt like they weren't getting through any other way.

Four episodes gone and you'd never even know Davis Harris was on our team. Didn't he lead the team in tackles last year??? The guy's a great player, but damn ... he must be the most boring guy in the world.

That aside ... the best thing about watching this series for me is I'm even more confident that a Superbowl is coming soon ... and it's not so much about the players ... We have a f#%@ing kick-ass coachng staff! I LOVE what I'm seeing from these guys.

I think the CS are really using Hard knocks a s a tool here. I totally agree with you.
In another thread, the whiteboard with 53 man roster was mentioned as it was shown, I think that is the tip of the iceberg on the deception thats going on here.
I'll bet if you played Rex at poker, you'd not only lose your shirt, but your pants and socks as well.
