Who is grading them? do they know the the pass protection schemes? do they know if a sack or pressure came from a QB holding on to it too long? It's incredibly diffiuclt to use stats to judge OL. I find it really hard to believe he was the worst pass blocking G in the league.
Old man? I don't but I'm willing to bet he was, what coach wants to get rid of a solid vet in favor of the unknown?
See this is why you stink as a poster. You are such a whiny c-rag. You cry and complain about everything. This is the internet, I should take it seriously? I should take a football msg board serious? Really? You take stuff so personal you probably think I am angry and you got my goat or something. I should be upset you don't find my posts particularly knowledgeable? Wow so you think I am not knowledgeable because 98% of my posts are just to poke fun at events or people and are for the most sarcastic? You think I give a rat's azz (can't cuss at work)? I would rather be a joker and not taken serious than someone that is serious and taken as a joke.
i think Faneca's 2010 salary factored into the decision to cut him....not just his shitty pass blocking.
My bad - I confused you with champ...must've been the senile post. You see that word in bold? Alan Faneca can't be considered that word anymore. He's a damn good run blocker, but he's a revolving door in pass pro. We can get the same kind of shitty pass pro from cheaper, younger, high potential players.
I'm not sure why you're acting like I disagree with you. As I said, it was an appropriate reaction, and one that you'll hear 49 times analyzing film of 50 players. My whole point was that I guarantee he wasn't the only one getting criticized, nor was it indicative of his overall play. It was one ugly play.
That is very fair to say. I am concerned about LG and RT in pass blocking. I'm hoping Woody is just a vet who has trouble getting up for preseason games. I am hoping Slauson repays Callahan's trust in him to gets it done. Ducasse reminds me of Pouha. I just hope he develops faster and his abilty surpasses Pouha's, and by next year. I think he is overwhelmed right now. From his technique, to switching positions to adjusting to NFL speed of the game. I said all along Ducasse would not start, or that would mean Slauson was a total lost cause. So far it has played out pretty much as I thought it would. Slauson, although he has been in Callahan's system for some time came into this year with very little NFL game experience. He WILL make some mistakes. People including the CS are being very patient with Sanchez. Give Slauson one fifth of that patience. I think he will come around. I hope so, at least.
The entire line has looked shaky. It isn't just the LG. It has been Brick, Woody, I think Mangold goofed as well. Really this line had been largely intact for 2 years, the longest such period for any team in the NFL believe it or not. There is something to be said for cohesion on the OL. Maybe the bad line play is a function of some players overcompensating for the absence of Faneca and the cohesion he brought. If I was going to complain about the release of Faneca it is the fact that even with his poor pass pro, it was an evil the Jets could live with if the line played as a cohesive unit. Apparently, Callahan, Shotty, Rex and Tanny thought it better to abruptly cut bait. We are jut going to have to hope that Slauson and the line as a unit can come together. I don't think it a stretch to say that we should have expected this poor play in the preseason.......The line is the sum of its parts and one part is new and inexperienced.
No question, his salary was the #1 reason why he was let go. My point is they can fleece the fans for PSLs but can't pay players in an uncapped year? I get the move for the long term and to save a couple of bucks but this team is all about right now. This team is built to win now, we should have more chances in the coming years but you never know and to pinch pennies being so close I didn't like. I'm getting old but I'm not senile yet.
I disagree, this was about money. Callahan doesn't have personnel power, I'm sure he gave his opinion but I'd be willing to bet he would have preferred to keep Faneca rather than working in a rookie or 2nd year player.
There is a site that grades all positions in the NFL. It is far from any kind of "official" NFL stats keeping operation, it isn't the Elias Sports Bureau, but it does offer the results of every single NFL snap and evaluates every player in the field for every snap. It is far from perfect. It does however offer decent ball park ratings for every player in the NFL. How many snaps they played, targets, pancake blocks, tackle opportunities, missed tackles, all sorts of stuff, but this year they became a subscription only site. No need to post a link. Profootball report or something like that. Being a FF player who plays in IDP leagues it was pretty invaluable as a resource when looking at defensive players. My comparison of Pouha to Ducasse is a simple one. Both were drafted pretty highly as projects. Both had serious problems with fundamentals and technique, both relied on their pure physical strength in their college careers and both were deemed "raw" talents coming out of smaller college programs. Ducasse should be able to develop faster than Pouha did, and his ceiling is higher. So was his draft position.
