I thought it was Rex saying it when Tannenbaum was telling him he needed to make the hard decision with Coles and TRich. Either way, a coach specifically said TRich was uncuttable because he's a locker room leader, and that completely disputes the notion that the offense has no leaders.
The Jets are cutting high cost veterans in order to sign the four targeted core players... Brick, Mangold, Harris and Revis. Clemens had to take a pay cut. Gholston apparently reworked his high cost contract. Slauson is getting a lot of shit from one play where he got beaten badly, and why? Only because the guy that beat him went low on Sanchez. Faneca got beat like that at least 20 times last year. Might I remind some folks that Faneca got the LOWEST pass blocking grade of any starting guard in the NFL last year? That is 64 starting guards. Faneca got graded at 64. Yes, he can still run block, but he got cut because he can't pass block and was expensive. So... who were they talking about at the end? Clowney? Woodhead? McKnight? Foley? TC fodder? Did anyone blow up the "board" shown at the end?
Before anyone does that there's a depth chart on nyjets.com... it looks kind of weird (no Clemens or Jason Davis) but maybe it's helpful...
Oh yes, your 14 posts about douchebags by far exceeds anything I ever posted here. I especially like those posts where you repeat three words about 100 times. Sharp insight, invaluable perspective. Should put you in the running for most knowledgable poster.
Our OL has been bad, a year ago our OL was excellent. We only have one new player and he almost got our QB killed. I'm not saying Slauson will suck but I'd feel alot more comfortable if faneca was our LG.
They have leaders, they just aren't doing the job right now. Sanchez is evolving into a true leader, Mangold is a leader on the OL as is Woody, Richardson is a leader but they were complaining that their leaders were nto stepping up and leading.
I think T Rich is not getting cut because there is a void of leadership on offense. That was what I took from it. Leadership is a funny thing. Some people just aren't cut out for it. Some of those guys try to lead by example, but leadership is more than that. It's a personality trait. Either you have it or you don't. Natural leaders. Rex has it, but he needs players that have it. I'm not sure it is a quality that can be developed. To some degree, it can be, but some people just have that presence. They can start talking when 5 people are talking over each other, and everyone shuts up. I don't know if the offense has that guy.
Wow wow, let's not get carried away... our OL was excellent in RUN BLOCKING. As far as PASS PROTECTION we were suspect last year at LG and sometimes at RT too, but especially LG. That said everyone has his opinion on who he'd prefer at LG but in my opinion Slauson isn't going to do that bad. Sure, opening the season vs Haloti Ngata won't help much... On the OL we have leaders. Sanchez is a 2nd year guy and he doesn't have the production to be a leader... he's doing all he can right now but he's still not a guy that can carry the team on his shoulders when needed. T-Rich is a leader but he's also a part time FB... not exactly a guy that takes the game in his hands when things are going bad... Somebody will stand up once the season starts... maybe LT.
As far as pass protection, I don't think Slauson has been as bad as Faneca was. What worries me is Woody's pass protection. Even Brick has gotten beaten like a drum a few times. To put it all on Slauson isn't fair. He is the easy sacpe goat, but I don't think he deserves all of the blame.
I agree. That and the fact that Conner is still a rookie, as much as they all love him, so T-Rich is a great insurance policy at FB in case Conner gets hurt or hits the rookie wall somewhere along the line. If you're going to still be "Ground and Pound" as Rex clearly wants it to be, you want to make sure you're ok at FB. In 2007 when we only ran for six TDs (two by the QBs) all year, a glaring weakness was the lack of a good FB, which led to them signing T-Rich.
I was thinking about this too. Wasn't Woody a left guard for a while? Too bad we couldn't find a stud RT and move Woody back inside to replace Faneca, but that gets into a lot of fixing what really wasn't broke at least up until now.
TRICH has a guaranteed contract from what Tanny was saying. I'm sure that helps the "leader" stay on the team.
I agree. Woody has been playing like dogshit. He has concrete cleats this year so far. And your right, Faneca got smoked more than a few times in pass protection last year, that's for fucking sure.
nah... a veteran on the team in WK1 gets his contract guaranteed for the season. But right now T-Rich money isn't guaranteed.
I know that rule, but didn't Tanny specifically say his contract was guaranteed on HK? I assumed it was just part of his deal, like Kellens new one.
I hope they start teaching Ducasse how to play RT... I think he can be a better RT than a LG... but still he'll have to work hard all season long 'cause right now he's just a big guy running around the field looking lost.
What I understood from HK was that Tanny and Rex were discussing what veteran they wanted to keep on WK1 and thus guaranteeing his contract. The choice was between Coles and T-Rich and they decided to go with T-Rich. Plus looking on nyjetscap.com T-Rich contract isn't guaranteed...
