No it's not. The irony in this scenario would be that Leinart stayed in school because San Francisco had the 1st pick in 2005. He was essentially a lock to go number one and he dreaded playing for the fiasco 49er's. So he waited a year, lost millions and had his name, reputation and career dragged through the mud in Arizona. Now, in this scenario, he'd be backing up a guy who he could've knocked out of the first round entirely if he'd declared. That's what you get for being a picky bitch, Matt.
I feel like Whisenhunt would rather pick up an undrafted FA saturday night and start him the next day than give Leinart a shot
After what Leinart had said, I would probably lean that way too. He said he felt like he had outplayed Anderson. ummmm ... no? I think Whisenhunt would be hesitant to do that because there is a distinct possibility that Anderson will get a little too mistake prone given his history (and maybe benched) and he already has 2 guys with no NFL experience after Leinart on the roster. At the very least Leinart knows the playbook.
I heard on Sirius NFL radio today that the Cardinals were also in the running for Whitehurst way back earlier in the offseason, so maybe these problems with Leinart stem from wayyyyy back.
Mostly it just reaffirms that he's Ryan Fitzpatrick. You mean back when he was drafted and since never played like an NFL QB? Yea, probably.
ditto Looking at his contract, there's no way this guy has any trade value. Plus, if he loses the job, which seems to be where this is headed, he'll probably get cut anyway. I can't even begin to understand wtf Whisenhunt was thinking setting up this QB battle to begin with. Leinart clearly isn't mature enough to run an NFL offense and it seems like there has been a disconnect b/w him and the coaches for a while... if they didn't have confidence he could be the starter, why didn't they bring in someone else? Surely their master plan wasn't to bring in Derek fucking Anderson and have him start..? I mean good Lord.
Yep, I was pissed but not about Leinart, just about using a top pick on a Lineman.... It took a few years and a Pennington sacrifice but it ended up panning out. Leinart just doesn't look like his mechanics function properly...everything he does seems like effort and takes too long for an NFL QB.
Soooo glad we didn't take him in the draft all those years ago. Really don't know where it all went wrong for him, back in college he had everything but the arm strength. Now it looks like he totally doesn't know what he's doing.
Matt Leinart would look good in green and white compared to any of the back ups we currently have on the roster IMO. He comes cheap and I'm sure him and Sanchez would get along quite well
He comes cheap because he sucks. Backing up a huge question mark with a guy who has basically crossed over from "question mark" to "absolutely terrible" is stupid.
