Rex will change the defense to work without Revis. If you don't have Revis, you probably can't put someone else in the Revis role - I doubt he tries to force someone to try and do more than they're capable of. It won't be as good, but it will be good.
Here's a question nobody has asked yet. Is there a way for Revis to have the remaining years on his contract voided? He lost this year already as a count towards FA and I think he still has 3 years left on his rookie contract. If he follows Uncle Sean's advice, he ain't playing this year and with a lockout almost a certainty in '11, he wouldn't have played a down in 2 seasons and he'd still owe the Jets the third year. Anyone here see a lawsuit down the road accompanied by a "Free Revis" campaign? If the Jets don't cave, I'm not sure there's another way out of this for Team Revis.
That's almost as ridiculous as the plot of the movie "23". They deduced 23 from any scenario: Theres 1 duck and 1 pond...1 plus 1 is 2, 2 comes before 3, twenty-three.
There's no way out for them unless Revis contract removed the standard clause that allows the Jets to toll over the contract for a year in any season that he willfully chooses not to perform. If that were the case then he goes to year 4 of the contract next year and exercises his opt out and the Jets buy back, or whatever. It's hard to see this working out at this point. If Revis is dug in then it'll be awhile before they see him again.
His contract freezes, so if he doesn't play he still has three years on his contract and it doesn't unfreeze until he plays a snap. Meaning if he sits out these two years, he still has three years left on the deal. So, the only way out is to retire. Edit: beaten to it.
I know that. The question is whether they are going to get help or not. I feel pretty crappy about the prospect of the FO doing nothing to shore up the secondary at this point. We do not want to see much of Lowery and Coleman. What I would do right now is two things: 1. While this "agree on the total before we talk about guaranteed" has a certain surface plausiblity, it is not getting it done, apparently. Rethink this. Make a new offer that puts guaranteed money on the table, but at the same time 2. Try to find another corner. Leak it, do whatever. Let it get out there. Jets are looking for help as if they are not only planning on playing without Revis, but hope to fill, even if partly, the hole is leaving. Imo nobody is scared of Lowery and Coleman. They do not give the Jets cred. I'd be the first to admit I don't have any good ideas of who they should be getting, but they have to look, imo. Time is running out.
Haha, classic film. I don't think i've ever laughed so hard at a movie that wasn't trying to be funny...except maybe Snakes on a Plane. But update: My best friend lives in the new town houses in Livingston, NJ. His next door neighbor is D'brickashaw Ferguson, who we see driving his escalade around all the time. And across the street from him lives none other than Darelle Revis, who just recently bought the condo and is not fully moved in yet, but is occasionally around. Well, my friend, who is a Giants fan but also graduated from Pitt so is a big Revis fan, called me freaking out yesterday because on his way to a doctors appointment he saw Rex Ryan knocking on Revis' door. He couldn't stay so I don't know how long he was there or anything like that, but the fact that Rex and Revis are clearly still having meetings, as late as yesterday is a great sign. Take it as you wish, but I think this deal is gonna get done.
Who exactly would the Jets pick up if Revis doesn't play this season? Is there any decent CBs on the open market? Any that could be traded for?
he doesn't have to pay it if he never plays another NFL game every again, which could very well happen
He'll never pay it if he signs, they'll forgive it or write it into the contract that it's waived. It's a bullshit number in a situation like this.
If you think there's a REMOTE chance that Revis never plays another NFL game, you're a)crazy or b)crazy.
I think its time to stage a protest outside of Feinsod and Schwartz. It amazes me that the way they have handled Jackson and Revis that they could possibly draw any upcoming talent. What's the speech they give to people? "Hey. Do you wanna sit out the best years of your life while waiting for NFL teams to give in to outrageous contract demands??...Come join our winning team. Helping to prove you never have to play a down in your prime ever again"
I think a thread that has the timeline of the whole entire process throught the Revis holdout would be very beneficial to the board. Starting with him not feeling good at OTA's, then when he started his holdout, interviews or meetings that went down or were scheduled to go down, any GeigerGeiger tweets, Revis tweeting a fake Woody and a whore, buying watches, Cowlishaw's busted source, etc. The whole 9 yards. There must be some correlation we can put together to figure this out.
Opening day is like the date of a trial. For attorneys like myself, it is a date known far in advance, with much posturing and legal maneuvering in the interim. Tannenbaum and Revis' agents, all attorneys themselves, are looking at opening day as the trial date, or the point of no return. Anyone who has been involved in any complex negotiation knows, both sides are likely to compromise as the trial date becomes closer to imminent reality. I won't repeat what both sides have to lose, as this has been covered ad nauseum on this thread and the prior versions. Suffice it to say that a deal is almost certain to occur between Friday and Tuesday of next week. Taking the emotion out of the issue, which Tannenbaum, Schwartz and Feinsod will do in representing their client's respective interests as the deadline of opening day beckons, will result in a compromise that both sides can live with whether it results in a "Jet for life" deal or simply a "band-aid" contract until the uncertainty of the forthcoming CBA clears up. Remember that the NFL mimics other aspects of life, and I will tell you that the vast majority of legal cases, simple or complex, never go to trial because both sides have too much to lose. The good money is that Revis is back in the fold at this time next week.
watch the way you talk to me you cocksucker, who the hell do you think you are? what the hell does it benefit me in telling you a lie, i work in the jewelry district and he was at the exchange downstairs, if you believe me great if you dont and your just going to curse me off go fuck yourself
THis point has already been addressed above. Facts are that Revis can sign AFTER OD, and his leverage will probably go up significantly if the Jets lose their first two, or go 1-3. You forgot about that.
F&S struck out with Kendall and Baker, now they are holding the Jets hostage. Why is it ALWAYS thier client who keep syaing the Jets promised new contracts. ughh just venting... sorry im at my wits end with this
