No, Shonne Greene's sisters cousin twice removed is Jason Taylors dogs pimp and she feeds him Alphabits every morning and he shits out a watch.
It's worse than that! I was buttering my toast this morning and suddenly there he was! Darrelle Revis appeared in a pool of butter, winked at me and then he was gone, leaving nothing but toast in his absence.
In thinking about this whole situation I always seem to forget out the impending lost season of 2011. I come to grips with the notion of him sitting out this season, resent the dude, think he's a greedy POS, go through all the emotions, but then it will hit me later on that - wait a minute - this idiot is going to actually have us believe that he's going to sit out the season before a work stoppage in an effort to make himself MORE money? Then I laugh at the notion of Revis and his team taking such a ridiculously stupid position in this whole process. We all know about the impending CBA nightmare (or whatever it is), yet we'll have conversations about him sitting out just one year, and then being traded or something. Most people involved have been saying that not only is the work stoppage possible, but it's probable, yet Revis and his team think it's a good idea that they hold out the entire season anyway? No wonder the Jets have no desire to budge here. Looking at the big picture of this whole thing it seems like the Revis camp is going to cut off it's whole freaking head just to spite its face. It makes me mad that Darrelle seems to be ruining a perfectly good all-pro career by taking such an awful risk. This is what makes me believe that there's no way he can sit out this whole season, considering what looms for 2011... ...right?
^ Snatch, First of all, you are forgetting the maxim - you can't count on other people to do the right thing by and for themselves. And that assumes you are right about his situation, which he clearly does not. Imo the way he saw what happened with Leon last year, while not the way I or most saw it here, weighs heavily in his thinking.
The bit that I don't understand is that if he holds out the season, and potentially next season, what are his endorsements going to be worth? "Nike shoes. The holdouts choice for grip between the couch and the refrigerator"
The holdout was a calculated risk by Revis. If the Jets hold firm then it was a blunder and he needs to find a way to come in off the ledge. He did gain something big though in the process: he didn't risk injury in a preseason in which he was only scheduled to make a million dollars.
This is why I don't think he'll get it go much longer. Revis will lose a LOT of money in endorsements if he holds out. He's not stupid. If he keeps playing like he's playing, he can make up the ~4m a year difference he is seeking in endorsements.
You have 17 posts, every single one of them has been in the Darrelle Revis thread, and now all of a sudden you have seen Revis buying a very expensive watch. Shut the fuck up.
Agreed, and it is something that I forget. At the same time though, as much as I hate Schwartz and Feinsod, they are two highly educated, experienced, and calculated individuals. This is what makes me incredulous about the whole situation. I understand that as an agency these clowns think threatning the team is the best way to extort that extra few million out of the FO, but to try and enact that tactic when the guy has 3 years left on his deal AND sitting out a season likely means sitting out TWO? It just doesn't add up to me. The only thing I can arrive at is that like Bradwaysucks said, this is just a huge bluff and that it will be resolved soon because Revis really has no other choice. I mean, the guy either plays football this year, or loses two seasons of his career in all likelihood, while returning to the game in a immensely weakened bargaining position. I just wish I could feel as optimistic as the logic tells me to be.
I told myself some weeks ago that if this went past Aug 18th, the odds greatly increased that the Jets will not be making any significant moves in their offers to Revis. But that was based on the assumption they would look elsewhere to shore up their cornerback roster. From the absence of any indication they have tried to do that, where does that leave us? A. The Jets still think/plan/hope/are clueless that Revis is going to come back. B. They plan on going with the current roster. C. They are working on getting help, and will get that done before OD. How much do each of these scenarios make sense? A. The sense of this scenario, meaning how much sense it makes from the Jets perspective, obviously depends on their assessment that they are close. If instead they are merely hoping that the Revis camp folds, assuming it will, imo that is not solid ground to prepare for opening day, which is another way of saying B is their Plan B (assuming this is the scenario). B. The problem is Plan B is not much of a plan. As Abyz rightly pointed out above, last year's D centered around the ability of the Jets to leave Revis in man coverage on the opponent's #1 receiver, allowing the rest of the secondary to move around, covering others, and of course blitzing. No Revis, the whole D has to be changed up. Getting Cro amd Kyle were good moves, but Kyle is a rookie, and imo the Jets will not let Cro cover the opponent's #1 in man coverage. There is also the lack of depth at corner without Revis. imo we don't want to see much of Lowery out there. And what will this team do when they play the Pats with Welker and Moss? Most likely get killed. So, is C really the scenario? C. The problem with C is, it's less than two weeks to OD, and the Jets do not even appear to be trying to get some help. Waiting for camp cuts, perhaps? Bring in another old vet who's semi-retired right now? Big trade before OD? Who knows, but time is running out, and the part about the C scenario that really gets me is if they were even just making noise about this, it might add a bit of leverage on Plan A. Conversely the lack of indication they are pursuing C adds leverage to the Revis camp. Of course for all we know the Jets might be about to sign Revis or alternatively get help elsewhere. But if it ends up that B is their Plan B, then I fear we will soon be seeing what would be the defensive version of the Pete Kendall phenomenon. Heaven forbid.
The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread (Update: Revis Buys Watches With Pimp) You should listen to logic. It'll put you ahead of 99% of the people in this thread.
The problem with this concept, the bluff concept, is it DOES NOT require Revis to fold before OD. As others have noted if the Jets go into the regular season without Revis, the schedule gives Revis leverage, since oppponents in the first quarter of the season includes so many high quality receivers and passing attacks. So, Revis could think, imo quite logically, that his leverage goes up with each loss, and who here wants to bet the Jets go 3-1 without Revis in the first quarter? 2-2 or even 1-3, we will be sitting here watching our SB hopes go down the toilet. How to pull it out before the final flush? Sign Revis at whatever it takes. So if that happens, the team's chances are badly damaged, and he gets signed, anyway. The problem with all the focus on the Revis camp's cost of holding out is it ignores the cost to the Jets of not playing the schedule with a full deck, having to redo the defensive schemes, all that. Ftr that doesn't mean I think the Jets need to bounce up their offer by a great amount or anything. No, it means we might be looking at a perfect Shite Storm barrelling down on us. At least I have my chain saws.
