The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread (No deal yet.)

The most likely scenario has him signing a week from now. The "no way he signs before Game 3" proclamations are just silly.

The corners don't even need to look unstoppable, they just need to look competent. If the Jets are losing games because Joe Flacco and Tom Brady are passing for 300+ yards and picking apart the secondary at will then Revis leverage goes up, but if the secondary is keeping things together then the Jets leverage goes up.

The Emmitt Smith comparison that everybody is using is kind of invalid in this situation because without Smith the Cowboys offense could not get things going. A sputtering offense was what caused their slow start. It's going to take a sputtering defense losing high scoring games to have the same effect for Revis. If the Jets are losing games because the offense is having issues the pressure to bring back Revis will be much lower. I can already see Rex Ryan saying "having Revis would be great, but we need to fix the things that aren't working well first and that's on the other side of the ball."

When Ryan's defense was really working last year the QB's were making lousy throws under pressure and very quickly in the sequence, within 2.5 seconds or so. The moments when a shutdown corner was necessary were many fewer than you'd have expected because the QB's just weren't getting the 4.5-5 seconds to look around that exposes a lesser defensive back in coverage.

So you think Revis is going to blink at the last moment before he finds out if 3 games are worth $40 million to him? Based on what you know of him and his team and his uncle's history what makes you optimistic that this is the case?

There's being in shape and being in football game ready shape. he will obviously not be up to speed the moment he comes back and it will take him a little time to get back to normal.

The problem about starting the season strong is we play the Ravens on a Monday and then the Patriots on Sunday... the first two games are two very difficult games!

Also that means going against Boldin in WK 1, Moss & Welker on WK 2 and Marshall on WK 3... that's where Revis leverage comes from...

so who is going to call these guys?

I wonder how they both got in business being Sports Agents. Such a great job I bet, but the death threats probably get ridiculous.

I don't even understand where people are pulling this Game 3 nonsense from anyway.

There's zero chance anyone is going to actually gete in touch with them unless they pretend to be someone else.

One possible way is to get a female friend of yours to call and pretend that she's the Personal Assistant of one of the NFL's GMs. Probably one that doesn't currently work with them. I'd use Rod Graves, the GM for the Cardinals.

Have her say something like this:

"Good morning, this is Andrea Keller from the office of Rod Graves of the Arizona Cardinals. We would like to schedule a call with Mr. Schwartz."

Once she sets the time, have her call at that time saying that she has Mr. Graves on the line, then transfer over to you. Then you can spew whatever B.S you want.

    Give it a shot.

People are comparing the situation to Emmit Smith in 1993. Held out through the first 2 regular season games. Cowboys went 0-2 and then caved and gave Emmit whatever he wanted. They went on to win the superbowl that year.
