Turner also has the moron twins for agents so kiss him goodbye when his contract runs out. Why put the guy in a position of importance if you can't rely on him long term?
Funny thing, when I fired up Madden 11, I opted for the CPU to fill the roster, Mawae made back up C.:breakdance: Not sure this was posted...
I'd like to see Vlad get work in practice at RT now. This could work out MUCH better in the long run.
From my limited viewing of him he just appears to be more of a RT than a LG. Slauson doesn't exactly fill me with confidence at LG though.
A Jets fan seeing the glass as half empty? I refuse to believe it. Our OL has appeared pretty shaky so far but from what I've seen, Slauson has been better than solid. What exactly are you expecting from him?
Well, as long as you asked, I guess I expected our second-round pick to seize the day. I'm not devastated by any means, but I had hopes. I wanted to read reports like this: "Vlad Ducasse has really impressed early in camp, justifying the Jets spending a second-round pick on his tremendous upside, but the youngster will likely open the season on the bench because of the breakout performance of second-year player Matt Slauson. Slauson has shown great improvement and has wrestled the starting spot away with his intensity and firm grasp of the system." instead we're reading about how Ducasse is a little bit disappointing with his inconsistency and therefore the position is going to Slauson, who isn't exactly flashing brilliance but also isn't a glaring weakness out there. Fair enough?
The Steelers won a ring with a shitty LG and a QB who holds on to the ball forever.... that's all I got. Slauson will learn on the job, but I'd like a Guard at the LG spot who is good to very good, and not average to above average for once.
Right now we have no idea how good Slauson will be... Let him play as a starter for a year and we'll know if he's average or good. He isn't getting any particular hype because he was a 6th rd pick but many very good guards start that way.
We can all see he'll be average for at least the first half of the season. As he gets more PT, he could become a good LG
Sure... I just wanted to say we don't have any idea what his ceiling will be... Playing between Ferguson and Mangold should help him out a little too...
This has so far worked out as I suspected it would. For those on Ducasse's case, didn't you read anything about him? Limited time playing football? Played small school LT? Was raw, but extemely strong. Scouting reports unanimously said he could be the best LG in the draft, but was too raw to start. He's switching from LT to LG, and small school to the NFL. He was a KNOWN project. Gte that through yer noggin. Now Slauson. He saw some spot duty in 3 games last year. His play in the preseason has showed slow but steady improvement. Did people expect him to come in with so little experience and not make a few mistakes? He is playing about as well as any reasonable fan could expect. As long as he keeps learning and improving, I'm not worried about him. I am more worried about Woody, reverting to playing like the guy that other NFL teams gave up on. We have no one to play behind Woody. I'm afraid thast we might have to keep a TE in to help him pass block.
yep, peoples expectations initally of Ducasse were too high based on the information out there on him at the draft and after the draft. It's why I felt so strongly that the Jets were confident in Slauson, or as a failsafe Tuner, were ready to step in when the Jets released Alan F. Every report I had read on Vlad said he was very talanted but very raw and a project. When about every report says that there's usually something substantial to it. Vlad will be a very good O-Lineman down the road, just not yet.
