It's less of a slap against Slauson if/when they replace him with Ducasse if Rex keeps it an "open competition" even with Slauson getting as much first teams reps as he's getting. It makes sense if Rex already knows that he wants Ducasse to step in at some point.

Slauson is clearly the most pro-ready LG we have on the roster.
Ducasse has more physical upside than Slauson no doubt, but he'll need at least one season living in the NFL to adapt to the speed and mental aspect... one season AND one full off-season.

At this point until Slauson proves he can be a starting LG in this league Ducasse will be groomed as a G. IF Slauson proves he can be a quality starter than they will start grooming Ducasse as a RT, otherwise next off-season it will still be Slauson vs Ducasse at LG.

PS That said, as Rex himself said, we should all have absolute faith in Callahan calling the shots on the OL. He's the coach I have most confidence in...

Vlad looked pretty bad in the 2nd quarter of the panthers game.Gave up 2 pressures in the passing game and looked a bit lost in the run game.

Also Mike Turkovich, the 2nd string RT looks bad.I hope he never sees the field.

Turkovich was the 2nd string RT? What happened to Hunter, was he at LT?

Yeah he was at LT.Looked decent.I think Hunter would fill in at RT before Turkovich.

Totally, Hunter was the 2nd stringer at RT in 2009 and did well when he was brought in for a backup. No way Turkovich beats him out for that depth spot.

I was quite impressed with Hunter in the game against the Panthers. He was probably our most complete o-linemen in the game.No problems in the passing game and made some nice blocks in the running game.

Turkovich had an even worse 3rd quarter, gave up the sack that pinned us at the one and caused the pocket to collapse two plays later which almost gave up a safety.

Ducasse looked a bit better in the third,he flashed that run blocking ability. However he seems really raw,I'd actually want to see Turner out there before Ducasse.

Slauson looks more comfortable at RG,I don't think he did anything wrong when he was with the 2nd team.

Couldn't be arsed studying the 3rd stringers in the 4th quarter.I like rewatching the games to see how things happened but even I have my limits.

Funny thing is, LOT is Ducasses' preferred position, yet in pass blocking at LG he looked very very suspect. I have to say I was very surprised by this, but at the same time happy with his run blocking though.
Slauson will be starting at LG, barring someone else getting cut and brought in.

Thanks for the info... Prob because Hunter will make the team and Turkovich won't ;)...

Hunter and Turner have been on this team for a while and I'm happy we have backups who know the system so well. Plus Hunter was originally a 3rd round pick so I guess he's always had some talent...

PS I'm actually a fan of Turner... he always plays with a lot of power on running plays... but I guess he must have some other weaknesses since he was never much into the LG discussion...

I think they prefer Turner as a jack of all trades that can play all five positions if needed. They really need a backup for Mangold and he can play center. I also think he might be represented by the same agents as Revis.

Revis and Turner are the only two players on the Jets roster represented by these two losers.

Pete Kendall, Chris Baker, Murrell and Douglas are all represented by these two clowns.

They have 3 big times players, Revis, Roddy White and Vincent Jackson. All three of them have already been involved in holdouts.

Slauson is a good run-blocking guard. He was solid tonight in that area. Pass blocking could use a little work, but he was pretty decent in that area as well. It's pretty clear now that Slauson wins the spot.

I remember one o-lineman standing out for being absolutely worthless last week and I'm pretty sure that was this guy. If it's him, hopefully he doesn't make the team at all.

Well considering that I said before camp opened that Slauson had the inside track for the LG spot I figured I'd wait until it became a lock to say it was a done deal. Age has taught me not to proclaim premature victory....

Turner did a great job subbing for Mangold week one, I would like to see him get a shot at the LG job as well. The only weakness I know of is that Turner likes to fight. The coaches used him to light a fire under Gholsten in practice.
