Eh... I hate Carter... but I'll always remember Welker getting jacked up by Justin Miller of all people in the rain on Christmas Day
I tend to remember the Julian Edelman game as well. There's no denying Welker is really friggin' good. Maybe Carter reserves the term "great" for the top 3 or 5 WRs in the league. Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Moss, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall (etc.?) I don't pay much attention to what the talking heads say or categorize them as idiots and what-not over the course of time, but it seems like they get thrown in the trash whenever someone disagrees with them. Recently Carter was vehemently against an 18 game season and that, to me, is not fucktard. He's pretty well spoken too.
Yeah... except Cris Carter being a retard kind of gets in the way. ESPN is the bottom of the barrel for sports analysis.
Did you actually watch that week 2 game? Edelman had atleast 3 drops. He is white and small. But besides that you cannot compare. Welkers routes, hands, and toughness is on a whole nother level
Welker had 80+ yards in 10 of fourteen games last year, Moss hit that number 5 times in 17 games... Welker six or more catches in 12 of 14. Moss? 5 of 17. As far as I'm concerned, Wes Welker is far and away the best slot receiver in football, and one of the best 4 or 5 inside the hash marks receivers, TEs included. That's good enough for me to call him elite, even if it's not in the same way as guys like Moss or Andre.
It can take up to a year. It depends largely on the indiviuals recovery rate, the work he puts into his thearpy, and the skill of the surgon. We know he had top medical care so the surgey and care after was on the elite side. We know a guy like welker is going to work his ass off to get back. He may not be 100%. He's probly missing some of the power in his cuts that makes him so damn hard to cover and seemly always open, but his knee should be functional. Its 8 months later already, almost 9.
and what could Carter possibly be jealous of? nobody would ever attempt to even compare Wes Welker to Chris Carter, so there is nothing Carter could possibly be jealous of in comparison. just a dumb statement. or perhaps he does understand that, and understands that being great at that role isn't the same as being a great receiver in the same context that the great receivers are judged by -- beating guys one on one, getting downfield and scoring TD's.
Wes Welker is a great situation, I think his production comes from who's throwing to him and who is taking the double team rather than skill. You could put any player, whether it be Danny Amendola, Laveranues Coles, or Kevin Walter, in his role for the Patriots and they would have similar stats to Welker.
Excellent post. Right on the money. Plus, he thrives in NE's dink and dunk offense and causes defenses fits. Defenses absolutely game plan Welker.
I hope your life will still be enjoyable if someone either doesn't know that or simply doesn't give a shit about it.
Edelman had 8 recs for 98 yds for a 12.3 avg. Welkers per game average the last 3 years in NE: 7.5 recs(we'll round up and say 8) and 80 yds w/ an 11.7 average. He was doing the same things, he may have had a drop or 2 but he did everything welker typically does including not score a TD.
my dumb statement was a sarcastic comment. but if you wanna talk about it ... welker has played in a super bowl ... carter hasn't welker has had 3 straight 100 catch seasons ... carter didn't for starters, anyway ...
I'd only add that Welker's ACL tear was a non-contact injury, which I've heard made it a little less severe than Brady's, Carson Palmer's, etc...
Slot receivers don't typically score a lot of TDs. Chrebet, arguably the best Jet to play the position, never had more than 9 TDs in a season. The guy's got 346 catches in three seasons, and about 3700 yards. If that kind of production doesn't mean anything to you or Cris Carter, hey, no problem. I don't care as long as 83 keeps catching passes.
I think the real question is what defines a "great" wide reciever. Is it the ability to make long td plays? Get open at will? Have great hands, make clutch plays? In my opinion a great wr can get open at will, is a great route runner with great hands and will make a big play when you need him to. If I was to name players that fit that Holmes Wayne Marshall Fitz Boldin Wes Ochocinco Steve smith Based on those players who would u want to be out there making a play. Sure we might not be ur first choice because he isn't 6'5. But I think wes runs better routes and has better hands than couple of those guys
Welker is so quick underneath and is virtually impossible to cover by a defensive back never mind a linebacker who's usually his victim.
Welker has had more than 5 TDs ONCE, Chrebet had more than 5 three times and Welker's career high is 8 while Chrebet had at least 8 three times.
But that's merely because welker isn't really ever on the field in the red zone. How does catching a 5 yd ts pass make u a better. I think tds are overrated for wrs in that sense.
