idk if this gets resolved....both parties are at fault, with that being said how long are the starters supposed to play today?
I'm pretty sure that Revis was going to demand a new contract regardless of what Woody, Tanny, or Rex said to him or about him. Nearly winning DPOY and having an absolute shutdown season was more than enough to convince Revis and his agents that they had all the leverage in the world to get as much money as possible. Woody and Tanny probably tried to preempt Revis by approaching him first in a show of support, and making clear their intent on making him a Jet for life. Also, I don't see how Rex could have avoided gushing over Revis when 99% of the country was doing the same thing. Revis was unfairly denied DPOY and Rex stood by him. I think a lot of players appreciate that. But I don't think that had any effect on the negotiations. The holdout was planned.
Yes, given Revis representation and family there is no way he was not holding out this season if the alternative was playing under his old deal. The early approach by the jets was to give them time to deal with the ramifications of that fact. Had to fix this.
I really do not see how both parties are at fault in the least. This is 100% on Revis and his agents, period. Find me a player who had his contract ripped up with 3 years left, who got a deal that destroyed the current highest deal at his position? I have been looking for this case and have not found it. One year left, fine, two years left, not so much but MAYBE, three years left, insane. People are acting as if Revis was offered a 2 year 10 million contract and told take it or leave it. The Jets are offering Revis by far the biggest contract EVER given to a QB, one that is better than most elite level QB's, all this with 3 years left on his CURRENT deal. And HE is refusing that, and to make it worse, hurting the team by holding out and being a distraction. Sorry, just don't see any fault at all on the Jets part here, zero. As far as I am concerned, if he comes back I want him to play well, but I will never be a fan of his again, barring he has a pick to win the SB. And as for his agents, remember, he chooses his agents, and he can fire them at any time. Buress did it before signing with the Giants, as far as I am concerned I blame Revis for this more than his garbage agents.
im glad i signed up to these boards......this thread is ridiculous i go take a piss come back and theres 2 new pages, shit im supposed to be out 7-8 tonight....so dvr n watch when i get back or to hell w the woman and just stay home....i think ill take option 2
Good points in your write up but you have a couple key flaws in your arguments about the players. The Smith brothers were resigned and accepted the Jets tendered offer earlier this off-season. We don't have to worry about them. Additionally, your line about Brad (and to an extend Eric) being a multi-talented person, but dont have to be the same guy, is contradictory to any football team's vision. If you don't think so I would like to see that question posed to Westhoff. The more people you have on the team wearing multiple hats (PR/KR/WR/QB or ST/ILB/SS, etc etc) the stronger your team is. Fundamentally, it frees up roster space so you can bring in specialists with higher skills at say pass rushing. Additionally, you have redundancy on your roster. If 10 guys between O & D have ST skills, well if someone goes down from either side you have someone to take their place. As for your point in a "FS who either has suffered 5 concussions in his career or has been suffering with recurring symptoms of PCS since his rookie season" the jury will be out on Pool until week 10 cause we will have an idea of his play and durability by then.
A summery: nothing new is out there about Revis, many posters have differeing opinions on who's at fault, how much to pay him, if he'll play this season, blah blah blah. If he does sign eventualy the site will most likely implode when 70 people try to create the new "Revis signed" or "Mevi$ paid " thread first. Now go click some adds to support the site. :jets:
Revis never wanted anything more than a 4 year contract. He's treating the contract he signed as if it was a 4 year deal. The Jets and Revis camp argued forever about contract length during the initial negotiation, with the Jets saying that first round picks were typically signed to 5 year deals and Revis holding out for a 4 year deal. The compromise in the end was what we're looking at, which is essentially a 4 year deal with a bonus that looks like a 6 year deal and a Jet's option to keep Revis for one season at a reasonable price and one additional season at a totally unreasonable price. Looking at the whole thing I have to admit that I think the Jets and Revis are caught in a trap of their own devising. They're both hanging upside down about 6 feet apart hissing and spitting at each other with no good resolution in sight.
The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread (status unknown) The only person to blame for this whole situation is NDmick. He started the house of worship and the whole ascension of Revis. I'm sure Revis is an avid reader of that thread and it has all gone to his head.
Who said he was a bad guy? I love Rex. But we're talking about a multi multi billion dollar industry here. Rex talking like he did last season was a resume builder for Revis. Rex didn't make a truckload of rookie mistakes in 2009, but that was one of them.
Revis has lost me completely. We have a solid team and great corners. Let him go hang himself. He, and him alone, will be responsible for throwing away bags of money and screwing his career. Have fun with that pissant. Yes, you are worth so much more that Peyton Manning, f'ing tard.
