Yea he signed a 1 year contract last year for 2.4 mil. Before this year his highest home run total for a season was 16 I think, which is crazy. This is a career year that he is most likely going to cash in on, then vanish into mediocrity. However, there are articles written about him how he has drastically improved his batting mechanics exploiting his strengths at the plate and minimizing his weaknesses. And to back this up, last year out of his 13 home runs were after September. So maybe he did figure something out. But looking at the big picture. he has a career BA of .242, career OBP of .340, and strikes out quite a bit. I'm not sold on the guy at all.
I wouldn't call Bautista a "fraud" by any means--nobody really considers him a superstar aside from the most delusional Jays fans. I think that most people see him for what he is: a limited player who can murder fastballs on the inside part of the plate. He's basically Marcus Thames with more playing time. But he's had a phenomenal year, there's no taking that away from him.
Yankee Stadium is the #1 home run stadium in the majors this year, according to Park Factor. Rogers Centre is #4. 15 of Bautista's home runs have come on the road. Hardly a "fraud". If he's a fraud, it's because he's come out of nowhere to display this huge power. And finally, no, Jeter would not hit 40 HR in any major league stadium. Career OBP of .440 would be really something. I assume you mean SLG? Anyway, he's currently at .242/.338/.440 for his career and he was pretty consistent with his homer numbers before this season. 16, 15, 15, 13. Buyer beware. I doubt he'll ever have a season like this again.
Yis, I like you bro, but you have a rough time catching sarcasm. Anyway, about Bautista, three letters sum up his season: H.G.H. I would really, really, like to DFA Chad Gaudin. I can't stand seeing him on the mound. All I can hope is that Alby gets the call soon. Moseley has really impressed me. I'm not convinced he's not pitching above himself yet, but you can't argue with the results thus far. If I were to give a guess as it stands now, Moseley would get Gaudin's spot in the pen with Andy back in the rotation. Javy is the question mark. Will he even be on the team? I have to give some credit to Curtis Granderson. He's really hitting well since the time off with Long. And when are teams going to stop trying to score on our outfielders? Girardi was mentioned on page 1. I agree, and have all along. I can't stand his managerial skills, though I will agree with Cappy that he's been better than Torre. Then again, I'd rather swallow my own vomit than my own feces, so really, there's no real winner here.
oh, it was a joke about what people said last season about Yankee Stadium? Someone else already took it seriously, so I figured I was safe. See the post before mine.
Yeah, I see that. So silly. Let's be honest, Jeter would only hit 35 homers in the Rogers Center, 38 tops.
I actually used to have problems recognizing Internet sarcasm as a teenager, but I've gotten much better. Now I don't take it seriously unless someone else already has.
Shit my bad that was a typo, I meant to write .340 for his OBP. I was just rounding up .002. Funny that typo was the exact same as his SLG. But yes I agree, this is a one year thing.
Yeah I completely missed the sarcasm of your post AM, my apologies. Hughes gettin beat up right now....
too bad we can't play the Red Sox like this.....we might actually have had a chance for the wildcard.
So I haven't been able to watch the games lately. I've only been listening on the radio. Does anyone see anything with Hughes that might be off? Someone mentioned on Twitter he seems to be over-relying on his fastball.
He is. But I don't how much that matters if he can't locate the fastball, or any of his other stuff. At least in the case of the curve, if he can't throw it for a strike on a consistent basis, they'll just sit fastball all day long. This is where the change would be helpful, since it has more deception. (A good one should, anyway.) I haven't liked the way Posada has called games for Hughes for most of the season, including when he was doing well.
Cappy hit the nail on the head. he needs either a slider or changeup to be an effective starter. This fastball/curve combo doesn't work if he can't throw both effectively.
That's why I don't get what's going on. Again, I'm not seeing the games, so is his location way off? Is he even trying to throw off-speed stuff? As for Posada, I don't like the way he calls anyone's games anymore. I really want him to become a full-time DH at this point. I know people have their problems with Cervelli, but he's a much better player behind the plate than Posada. I firmly believe his defensive ability outweighs his offensive shortcomings.
