im shocked...and for the pass happy cardinals......guy couldnt catcha pass....i was in shock to see him in a uniform.....i thought i saw Doug Brien suited up to....who's running the show there????
This is the Cardinals you're talking about. They're going to take the biggest fall of any team in the NFL this season.
I'm guessing since Kurt Warner is gone, they're gonna run the shit out of the ball more there. So bringing Becht in to help run-block makes sense. It's also probably the reason why they picked up Faneca in the off-season.
Also we know Leinart is gonna hold onto the ball forever when he drops backso they could use Becht to pass block as well
They didn't just bring him in this season, though. He's been in Arizona for a year now. He was a decent blocking TE for them last year, too.
The Rams are obviously terrible, the Cardinals are in a free fall, so who takes the division? Pete Carroll's Seahawks? The Alex Smith led 49ers? This has to be the worst division. Both Wests are.
I wasn't even aware he was. They did a good job of burying him in the depth chart last year, but I'm certain it was for good reason. I'm going by what the OP posted, but it would make sense to make him a starter now if they're gonna be a run-heavy offense.
He actually got some rather heavy playing time last season. One of my best friends is a Cardinal fan, and I saw him in on just about every run play and a lot of passing downs.
Wouldn't surprise me if I was wrong, but I still think the Cards look decent enough to win that Division. I can't really base this on anything, but I think they'll be surprisingly decent. Could be because I don't trust Alex Smith, but that's just me.
I thought Pope was their starting TE? Man, I'm totally out of sync with them. I used to watch them cause Larry Fitz is my fav player.
If the 49ers follow the Jets formula of running and defense then the Alex Smith impact will be minimal. They should walk away with that division easily.
He was, but given how little they actually use their TEs as pass catchers, Becht saw as much if not more PT.
Becht is a funny story. When the Jets drafted him, it was as a very good pass catching tight end. Then when he got to the NFL and it was clear that he was plodding and soft, all you'd ever hear about is what a great blocker he was. Guys like Anthony Becht are why you shouldn't take tight ends in the first round. Keith Bulluck went three picks later. -X-
