Saving grace is the good seasons had by guys like Mejia, Cohoon, and to a lesser extent Dillon Gee in the minors. The Mets HAVE youngish guys in their system who could provide them depth and versatility, but they seem really against using them.

This season they paid Jeff Francoeur, Louis Castillo, Alex Cora, Gary Matthews, Mike Jacobs, and Frank Catalanotto(sp?) 14 million dollars to suck.

They could have probably gotten better production for next to nothing out of Jesus Feliciano, Nick Evans, Chris Carter, Rob Turner, Lucas Duda, and Rubin Tejada.

The biggest part of their problem, besides Bernie Madoff, is that management thinks their fanbase will be impressed by name players, no matter what production those name players are still capable of. That's why Jeff Francoeur continues to get at bats ahead of Chris Carter, and why Nick Evans is still in AAA.
