The selections were just a madden reasoning (ergo they meant nothing) however I do feel someone would give some pretty good picks to have Revis on the team. I also think if you're a BAD team it could make sense to pay Revis not 16 but 14-15 mill a year... However let's talk about MAngold here, not Revis (sorry for changing the subject in my previous posts). 55 over 7 means a 7.8 avg... that's a good deal. I thought he was going to sign for about 8 so anything under that is yet another good contract by Tanny
By Dave Hutchinson and Jenny Vrentas 0 0 0Share Earlier today, Nick Mangold kept mum on the reports of a long-term deal with the Jets. The All-Pro center now has plenty to talk about. Mangold and the team have reached an agreement on a new, seven-year deal worth $55 million, according to someone with direct knowledge of the details of the contract. That person requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for Mangold or the team. The amount of guaranteed money is still being negotiated but is expected to be more than the $20 million Rams center Jason Brown received last year. Brown set the previous mark for centers in the league with the five-year, $37.5 million contract, with $20 million in guarantees, he signed last year. Mangold was scheduled to make $3.3 million this season, which will be included as the first year in the new deal. The sides were reported to be closing in on a deal last night, and his representatives flew in this morning to hammer out the final details. Asked if how much he would enjoy being with the Jets long-term, Mangold said he “would love to.” Coach Rex Ryan agreed. “You lock up the best center in football,” Ryan said. “That would be a huge thing for our franchise.” Mangold is the second member of the Jets’ core of young starters to be reach a long-term deal this year. Left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson signed a six-year, $60 million extension in July. The team has been deadlocked in negotiations with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis for more than six months. Asked earlier today if any deals other than Mangold’s, i.e. Revis’, are close, Ryan said, “that’d be news to me.” http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/08/jets_center_nick_mangold_agree.html
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/08/jets_center_nick_mangold_agree.html beat me to it, awesome stuff though
thats easily the best deal the Jets could have hoped for. that averages out to be just under $ 8 million dollars a year.
Mangold, Not Revis, is the one close to a new deal. Highest contract in the league at his position, but not by much on average and for 2 years more than the next center. GREAT deal for us.
however if the first year is the current 3.3 mill figure it means he'll avg 8.6 over the remaining 6 yrs making it a not-so-cap-friendly deal...
I'm sure Tanny is trying to structure these deals to coincide with each other. One year, Brick may make a lot more money than Mangold, and then it flip flops the following year.
Mangold, Not Revis, is the one close to a new deal. I wonder if Woody seeing his profits from the new stadium opened up the checkbook a little. Whatever the reason is, I couldn't be happier.
It seems to me like Mangold was looking to get paid while also putting the team in the best position possible. I doubt tanny would put us in a bad cap situation with this deal, revis deal...maybe, not mangolds.
PFT: Jets, Mangold very close to deal Posted by Mike Florio on August 23, 2010 7:31 PM ET It's almost done. It's not yet done, but it's almost done. Jenny Vrentas and Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger report that the Jets and center Nick Mangold have agreed to terms on a seven-year, $55 million deal. But while we've confirmed that the basic parameters have been satisfied as to duration and total dollars, we're told that the deal is not yet done. The primary remaining issue? Guaranteed money. Until there's an agreement on this fairly important term, the deal isn't and won't be done. We're nevertheless told that both sides hope to finalize the agreement after practice on Tuesday.
nice to see the jets take care of mangold he is one of the best o lineman in the nfl it also shows the players that the jets take care of there own
