Exactly. I say path of least resistance. I think they can get a deal done with Harris before Revis. Plus Harris is in camp and deserves first dibs.
Two words: FUCK HIM. Really. Revis might as well be the very fucking best CB out there, but if he has no regard for the team, then he can go fuck himself. I seriously hope Jets ship him away to some ghetto franchises like Chokeland for 2x 1st rounders + a few 2nd rounders. Or better yet, let him sit out for three years - let's see how good he will be after not playing at all for 3 years. He surely will get the dream contract he was trying to get.
Mangold re-signing puts the franchise tag (should it still exist in the new CBA) back in play for one of Harris, Holmes, Edwards and Cro. Hopefully Harris' deal gets done at some point too.
The black out was imposed 1 week ago from last Friday or about 11 days ago. That has to tell U that Revis or the NYJs have not moved off there positions since if there was any movement U would have heard about it. The more time goes by the more it looks like unless the NYJs agree to the Aso contract + $0.50 he will not sign
That really makes no sense at all. The reason they imposed the media blackout was to keep this out of the news.
Schefter just said the Jets are only waiting on the league to approve Mangold's contract before announcing it.
Adam Schefter just reported on ESPN radio that he is 100% sure Mangold contract will be done this week. His agent is flying in to finalize and sign the deal. sweet.
Mangold, Not Revis, is the one close to a new deal. FWIW, Rex confirmed that they're close with Mangold. On my iPhone, can't link. It was on the official NYJ twitter a few hours ago.
Very happy Mangold is being rewarded. With Mangold and D'brick being signed + Harris understanding he'll have to wait one more year before signing a new deal Revis can't use the "Jets don't re-sign their stars" argument. As I've said many times before... fuck him! I think Tanny's last resort is 10 years 130 mill... If Revis doesn't accept it trade him for 2 1st's, a 2nd and a 4th.
If that was a real 13 mill a year offer for 10 years I'd really want the Jets to trade Revis for something instead. Point to a cornerback who signed a big contract and then got his team anywhere. The hot teams over the last 5 years have been the Steelers and the Colts. No franchise corners there. The Giants won a Super Bowl. No franchise corner. The Saints won a Super Bowl. No franchise corner. The closest you come to a team really profiting from having great corners is the Patriots, and they keep letting them go when they start demanding top money. Like clockwork they let them leave and go get somebody else to play the position. And Belichik's background is as a defensive backfield coach.
Harris, Homles, and Edwards yes. But with Aso's contract out there and the potential Mevi$ contract, there's no way Cro would get the franchise tag because the average of the top 5 salaries would be so ridiculously high
Are franchise tags based on the upcoming year's salary or the previous year's salary? The Raiders might not pick up Aso's 2011 option because it might be worth 17+ million. Also Revis' contract might not be astronomically high to start either.
That assumes Aso even has a contract next year. It's a Raiders club option and nobody thinks they will exercise it. jeez..I'm a minute late all day today.
Mangold, Not Revis, is the one close to a new deal. It's being reported now the deal is 7 years for $55 million. Someone on a computer help me out please.
Mangold, Not Revis, is the one close to a new deal. That's awesome! I was guessing 6 years 50 mil so I'm very pleased with that number.
