Good write up. I tried to watch Slauson,Turner and Ducasse when they were in there.I thought Slauson done well.On one run to the right he got a real good push on his man.I can't remember what he done on LT's TD run but he must of done his job on that play. I think Ducasse whiffed his very first block, hardly the wrost thing for a rookie playing his worst snap to do. I felt Turner done really well in place on Mangold.Kris Jenkins said that Turner was a annoyed that he wasn't included in the LG battle,he may have a point.
Unless Mangold retires next year, no. They are only a year apart in age, Mangold will hopefully be the center for the next 10 years. Unless you are hinting that they will not resign Mangold.
Turner has a point. I was trying to focus on Slausen & kept noticing how hard Turner was playing to the whistle. I really didnt see Slausen blow anyone out in the run game -- reports from camp said the guy was a run mauler & needed to work on pass protection. But last night was the opposite - he seemed better in pass protection & didnt stand out on his run blocking. Turner should have gotten some G consideration. Was very good run blocking & engaged a lot of LBs during the game. Reminds me a little like Stephen Neal.
I would like to see Vlad in there with the starters, but perhaps Callahan is being cautious. No need to get Sanchez hurt in a pre-season game. But I do agree this competition should not go on too much longer. WHoever wins is replacing Faneca in what will hopefully be at least a top five line, and they need to play together as a unit.
I'm not sure how you got that impression of Slauson last night. The only plays that he looked comfortable to me against the Giants were the run plays, although he was far from impressive there. He was whipped probably 4 or 5 times in pass protection, although he was getting better in the second quarter. I want to see how effective he is when Mangold is playing next to him.
just a year ago we were all talking about how the addition of an all pro guard was going to help the talented but not quite there yet center and left tackle. remember the offensive line got abused 2 years ago. it will be interesting to see how things turn out, so far i have been a little disappointed in slauson and brick let em through a couple times tonight himself.
had a very nice block to spring LT for his 20 yard scamper .
While I won't write him in until opening day starter just yet I'd say it's pretty close to being a done deal. not bad for a 6th round "nobody" beating out the "sure thing" second rounder. Not a knock on Vlad by the way, he was drafted as a very high ceiling, very physically gifted, but raw Offensive linemen who will be a very productive part of our 1st Unit O-Line, just not right away. And that's as close to a gloat as I'll give despite all the grief I took on saying Slauson had the inside track. That said, still what, 2 more games and alot can change in that time.
hmy: WTF? Some fashion designer in Nebraska must of convinced him this was a good idea... I hope he got some for wearing a manzier for a game!
Rex needs to go ahead and name the starter before this next preseason game so that whomever it is (Slauson) can play with the rest of the first team and work on their O-Line chemistry before the season starts.
Yep, as was having played under Callahan's system in college. My argument was never that Slauson was the more physically talented of the two, just the more experienced and polished of the two. I still believe Vlad will have the better career between the two, I just believed he was too raw at the moment.
Vlad played great last night vs the Panthers. I really can't wait to see this kid plays with the 1s. Slauson has been okay, but he gets beat far too often. If Vlad looks as good vs the 1s as he has vs the 2s/3s, he'll be winning this job.
So far, Vlad hasn't earned a snap with the ones. Slauson got two starts in two games with the first team. I'm beginning to think the battle might be over.
