The guy is clearly washed up and he does not know the offense. Why does Sanchez need a mentor? Isn't that what we have a QB coach and an OC for? I am not a Clemmens fan but for a back up he is the current best bet. I was hoping to see Ainge push Clemmens this year, unfortunatly that can't happen. Brunell is a #3 at best and an overpaid one at that.

Ainge probably has a coke problem, he shouldn't be playing QB in the NFL. Outside linebacker sure but not QB

Because even if Brunell doesn't quite know the offense yet, he can still see mistakes or help guide Sanchez when he notices something. Drew Brees gave the guy a great deal of credit for his success last season.

Why not? I wasn't thrilled about signing him and I don't think the backup/mentor is by any means a necessity, but it's still a plus. And who's he bumping off? O'Connell? If we trade Clemens, we'll need Brunell, even if he is decrepit.

He offers something our OC and QBs coach don't and thats about 16 years worth of experience on the football field.

A mentor is also for handling pressure situations. Helping read offenses, boost after a int, like we saw on Hard Knocks. He's been through it all at this point, that's a nice thing to have for a young qb.

No matter how you look at it, a player will bond much more with another player.

Our QB Matt Cavanaugh who I know matter of fact, hes pretty good. He used to play in the NFL. He was offensive Coordinator on the Ravens when they won it all. Idk does it matter?

if sanchez goes down we have no chance either way, so its not like it matters.

It was actually mentioned in episode 1 of Hard Knocks, by Schotty.

I thought this article was pretty much on the money...

KC shouldn't be cut in favor of Brunell being the backup. KC can play better than Brunell right now. Rather see Kevin get cut.

Yeah, no doubt Clemens is better than O'Connell, but neither are good. Clemens has looked good because he has been playing against #2's and #3's. Also, this is a starting QB league. There are not many Warners behind Greens in this league. Its Sanchez or bust. So keeping Brunnell around makes sense to me.

Just wanted to add that although Burnell may have a vast amount of knowledge and experience, Jets Fans better hope that Mark Sanchez stays upright and healthy. While Kellen may not be a starter in the NFL and as poor as the whole offense looked last night, he still has outplayed Burnell in both preseason games. Trading Clemens away for this season at least, with the play of Burnell and O'Conner to date and Angie out for the season, might not be the smartest move for the Jets......

I'd like to see Brunell get some time with the 1s on offense, give him half a chance.

Brunell flat out stinks. And Sanchez' QB coach Cavanaugh was an NFL QB for 14 years. He's got 2 rings as a player, one as a coach, so he's seen first hand what it takes to play championship caliber QB. If Sanchez actually needs a mentor, Cavanaugh should be the man. Not a worthless backup who was just handed the #2 job the moment he stepped off the bus.

    Ask Drew Brees.

Brees said Brunell worked wonders for him last season.

I know Sanchez and he said he likes having Brunell there.

Rex and Kellen also told me how important it was to have Brunell around.

Brunell texted me saying he was dissapointed at how he played and is still learning the offense.
