The second part of Brandt's take on the situation pretty much sums up how most of us in this thread feel although there still are a few that say give him whatever he wants.
Yea well i was in a rush ...i dont know the guy personally ....have a friend that knows him. U get the point!
Stop saying that. We'd be eating more than just the 14th overall pick, we'd be eating one of the best defensive players in the league as well as the best player on our team. I really really hope it doesn't come to that, but there is no way we'll get even close to equal trade value for him. If Revis isn't willing to budge on his demands I'm not sure what the best course of action for the Jets would be.
Trade him for the best value they can get. Insert a clause in the trade agreement that says that if he is traded into the AFC East the team trading him has to compensate the Jets with 3 first round picks at the time they make the trade, and that any trade on to a team outside the AFC East by the acquiring team must include the 3-pick compensation rule also. So if he's traded into the East before he becomes a free agent the Jets get 3 first round picks additional compensation. The Jets gave up two day 1 picks to take Revis. If he's not going to play for the Jets then we need to recover some of that value.
Uh...I don't think they will trade him within the division..I think they would have him terminated first. In fact it's pretty doubtful they would trade him within the AFC..they will let him rot as they should. First round picks are garbage which is why everybody, EVERYBODY, always tries to get rid of them like they are cancer.
You're incorrect. In Reality, we'd be removing one of the best defensive players in the league... Now..this might be a little more existential than you grasp, but..... While we've come back to the pack a bit...we've mitigated that by moving a top 5 guy at the same position from another roster to ours. (another playoff competitor no less so our loss is further mitigated). Mevi$ has NO CHOICE in the matter, but to play for the Jets, except to retire. By trading him, our relative ability compared to another team decreases. By sitting him, no one increases relative to our ability. And in the final analysis, we gain goodwill in the lockerroom, by retaining $$$ for other players, among the league by emasculating these agents, and lose zero with the fan base. We could offer Cro 1/3 of what Mevi$ is asking for an lock him up for 6 years. While forcing Mevi$ to Retire, or Play out his deal
THEY WILL NOT TRADE HIM ANYWHERE No one in the NFL will offer picks plus 16 mil a year longterm. The inability to trade on these terms is part of the agents strategy. They are banking on the Jets unwillingness to eat the selection. Cromartie mitigates that.
Yeah, I agree with that and said it earlier. He really is untradeable. Even Al Davis wouldn't pay him that. In fact as Brandt said the probability is they won't even pick up Aso's option. I really don't know what his agents are thinking. They think they won't eat a 14th pick? Fuck they are going to eat a 6th pick sooner rather than later too and what was Robertson, a 4th? They basically gave him away too.
The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread ($40 million apart) I don't think you read his post correctly. He was talking about protection against ANOTHER team quickly flipping him to one of our rivals. And while 1st rounders have been problematic in recent years, there is a very real possibility that a rookie scale is coming next year. That's part of why the Seymour trade looked good for the Pats.
On an unrelated note... Can anyone tell me why Zeps Trampled Under Foot sounds like a ripoff of the Doobie Bros. Long Train Running?
Brandt explained what they are thinking. They are thinking that he is worth roughly the same as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. :breakdance:
This is a point that Revis' agents need to understand. Darrelle could be the best player in the NFL, but he will never be the most important one. The absolute most Revis can do in a game is eliminate a team's number one receiving target to zero catches. If he could somehow limit a team's entire wide receiving corps, then he might have an argument to get the money he's asking.
That was my point yesterday. In the AFC championship he held Indy's #1 to 57 yards. The problem was Manning still threw for almost 400 yards and three other guys had over 100 each. I don't know why more people don't see just how unimportant he is in the big scheme of things. Actually only two others. P. Garcon 11 151 13.7 1 36 15 A. Collie 7 123 17.6 1 46 9 R. Wayne 3 55 18.3 0 25 5 D. Clark 4 35 8.8 1 15 8 J. Addai 1 13 13.0 0 13 1 G. Robinson 0 0 0.0 0 0 1 Team 26 377 14.5 3 46 39
Well in my opinion, Revis is still very important to this team. Right now, I would put him second to only Mark Sanchez in terms of importance to this team's future success. You bring up a great point about Indy, Revis can only do so much. But this is also a reason why he important to this team. Manning will do the same thing to us this year against just Cromartie and Wilson. However, if you throw Revis into the mix, we potentially have a defense capable of stopping Peyton. I like what Rex and Woody were saying about the situation, Revis is just another piece of the puzzle. He might be a bigger piece than most, but signing him to a $16 million/year contract will not allow us to keep the other pieces (Harris, Cromartie, Mangold etc).
I'm not even sure he is as important as a healthy Jenkins. With him there might not even be any balls going out to the secondary to defend.
