The big factor in this for me is what the alternatives are. I love Revis and think he is the best corner in the game, but I think Cromartie is pretty damn good in his own right. That said, I can't think of many other coaches that I think would be as effective as Rex has been getting this franchise rejuvenated.
Oh im not taking away that Rex is a great coach. Im simply saying the impact he had on the jets was by far greater than the impact he had on the Ravens. Just comparing our roster to the Ravens (in their prime under rex) they by far had much more dangerous weapons for Rex to work with. Yeah we have Revis, but our OLBs arent exactly great, he had a backup NT with us, had a DE that started on and off over his career, Kerry Rhodes playing like a woman at safety, and some poor corner depth. Vs a team of Hall of Famers @ Baltimore. I think what Rex did for us is what will prove to people that he is a great defensive coach far more than baltimore.
Ryan. It is amazing what he did with basically Mangini's defense, although he added Leonhard and Scott. One CB can't win you a game, but a coach can.
Are you drunk again? The question is simple. Make a choice. My choice is Ryan. He took our 20 something defense and made it a the #1 defense. We had revis the previous year and we were not near #1. Ryan is going to have a top 10 defense almost regardless. We will be top 5 with or without Revis. Just like we were without Jenkins. We have not sniffed top five defense since I can remember and we have not sniffed the championship game in 11 years. I would take a top coach before I took a top player any day. It is a team game and the coach defines the team. It is Ryan by a long shot.
NYJ were 29th in pass defense with REVIS and not Rex. NYJ were #1 in pass defense with REX and with Revis. I'm going to go with Rex.

I think Rex has a long way to go before saying he's worth more than the best defensive player in the NFL. I find it hard to believe so many people have picked Rex here..
See posts above yours. Its easy to see why most people picked Rex. Its basically the same team as 08 and the team was dominant on the defense. Imagine a healthy Brent last year scoring points like the 08 offense did. I'm happy we got Dirty, but MS was not putting up 56 points on the Cardinals or 43 on the Rams. We needed the shut down D to win games last year. There was a drop off in offense without a proven QB...
At least I can sober up as it's way better than being an idiot and taking this serious. It's a stupid comparison.
Jets during Revis's tenure: 24-27 Jets during Ryan's tenure: 11-8 A small sample size, but Rex is slightly ahead.
I dont think people realize how important rex was in putting together that defense last year. Since he starting in this league, I believe he has only been apart of 1 defense that was not in the top 5. With Rex at the helm we can expect to have a top tier defense for years to come. Revis is a great player, but can be replaced.

If the choice was between canning Rex or dumping the entire roster and only keeping Rex and his CS I'd probably go with Rex... who knows if that'll change in the future but everything I've seen so far leads me to believe that we have a coach who could be the best the Jets have ever had... and he's young which means he's here as long as we want him to be.
