I think you're giving the Yankees and Sox a little too much credit--the A-Rod, Burnett, Beckett, and Lackey contracts are as bad or worse than anything that the Mets have handed out recently.

The difference is that the Yanks and Sox both have strong enough cores that, while those contracts will hurt them in the long run, they won't kill them. The Mets just don't have that kind of solid foundation.

I was at the game last night and oddly enough it was pretty much sold out, the crowd was rockin' especially after that Reyes triple to open up the bottom of the fourth. Then Pagan, Wright, and Beltran K to end that inning. I knew the game was over and so did the crowd. Then Tejada makes that terrible throw away error for error 2 of the game, and then later Wright goes Bill Buckner on our asses. Until the ninth inning we had as many hits as we had errors. That's just comically pitiful.

castillo walks, in comes durbin to face francouer (0/14, 5 Ks career vs durbin).

he hit it very well, but to the deep part in left center.

victorino catch, still 3-1 after 7

castillo has been good. beltran has not

No the problem is that if they make a mistake they cut bait with them or condemn them to the minors, they don't allow the problem to fester. That is what big market teams do. But those contracts aren't exactly the problem, for instance Santana has been pitching like an ace each year, Beltran gave us 3 great years prior to being injured and Bay is too early to say since like Beltran he needs a year to adjust.

The problem is the secondary moves that should provide depth but not only are we vastly overpaying for but are actually completely blocking us from making any moves. For instance due to the horrid management of the Alou deal and the overreacting of the Sanchez cab ordeal, we went for years without any productive corner outfielders, and we may have finally got someone in Pagan and we'll see with Bay, the albatross of the Perez and Castillo has killed the 2B and SP production and handcuffed us at the same time. If we had for instance never approached Castillo with that extension that alone may have been enough to get us in the playoffs in 2008 and with Santana being Santana, Delgado capable of mashing HRs who knows what happens that year

Just got back from the game tonight and the only thing that really fucking bothered me was that the Mets ball boy was playing catch with the Phillies outfielders. Does this normally happen? Why are we warming up the arms of our enemies? Really sucks. Pretty much everyone left after Beltran struck out in the 8th.

    That does usually happen.

I remember the Yankees old ball boy who looked exactly like Alfonso Soriano would always throw at least one ball way over Manny's head, to make him jog to the wall.

So I take it the Phillies clinched the division last night?

I truly did not know that. I don't watch baseball highlights anymore and haven't looked at the standings in a month.

They have a 5 game lead with a week and a half left, so unless they pull a 2007 Mets choke job, I'd say they're good to go. Like stated, I could give a fuck. Like stated, this wasn't too hard to call. The Phillies are the Phillies, they're a clutch team.
I was being a little stupid because of Rex2009 stupid "prediction" threads, in case that flew right over your head. :)

    I got the rex2009 reference.

I didn't mean any harm with what I posted this morning. I truly did not know if the PHillies had clinched the division and had/have no problem with you tooting your own horn for making a correct prediction.
