I see both sides of the dispute. Revis wants to get paid and the Jets want him to honor his contract. You just hate to see it at the detriment of the other guys on the team.
One thing I disagree about though. I would threaten the Revis camp to not trade him for the next 3 years. If he wants to sit out without playing football for the next 3 years and take his chances after that then so be it.
I think Mike T pretty much said that, said that he's under contract for 3 more years and they own his rights...he also said after that discouraging meeting at Roscoe diner that he wishes he had another hand to play.
I actually feel more confident about a deal getting done now that we know what the numbers are. a $40 million difference over ten years should not be that difficult to overcome as long as both sides can accept some concessions. If ownership can guarantee a larger percent than this thing could get done.
$40 million?! That's a shitload! If he doesn't sign another contract, that number is more than Jerricho Cotchery will have made in his entire career. (That irks me).
The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread ($40 million apart) Seriously, we could sign 20 players for that. Lol
Agreeing with you, but for different reasons. I just have to believe Revis (and his agent) will see reason and Tanny CLEARLY wants to make a deal. It'll get done.
They can work on the details for $4 million/year discrepancy. He's never going to be better than a #2 WR. I love the guy, but deal with it.
there already offering to make him the highest paid player in the nfl asking for another 40 mill on top is fucking nuts
BTW: For all of those who disagreed w/me and adamantly believed that the Diner Meeting wasn't going to be a Huge feature of Hard Knocks, simply b/c there were no cameras in the diner....Think Again.......
it would be an empty threat, the jets are not going to leave dead roster space and cap room just to screw revis, it's hard enough to win with 53 players and a full salary cap.
Considering there was a news release about HBOs cameras now allowed to be there. That's odd You could really see how badly Tanny wants to get this deal done on that ride back. He wants Revis in camp very badly. I feel for him.
Yes ND, they built it up with car shots and exterior shots of the diner which is sort of where they had to go w/it. Like it or not, its the biggest story of the camp. I agree w/you on Tanny. You can see the passion and intellect that makes him successful as well as the frustration w/not accomplishing his goal of getting Revis to agree to a contract that the team can afford to pay for without decimating the future.
There is no cap, but if a player refuses to report while under contract, I do not believe it requires an open roster spot. At the Jets site, Ainge and Revis are not on the roster, they are listed as Reserve/Did Not Report. Revis doesn't appear at all on the Jets' roster at NFL.com. I think the Jets will just let Revis sit the year out, and since it is Revis refusing to report while under contract, there are no team penatlies involved...
