I dont know if this has been asked but what happens if he doesnt report and sits out the whole year? Does that mean he has to be inactive all season and take up a roster spot or is there some kind of list we can put him on.
he is put on the did no report list and is not counted towards the roster till he reports at this point id make a take it or leave it offer and tell him if he intends to hold out he better be prepared to retire he is under contract for 3 more yrs and then can be franchised
How exactly does that help the Jets? If they don't want to pay him then it would better for them to trade him away. Punitive manners such as those don't really accomplish much for the Jets. Revis would be worth a lot on the trade market.
but it does prevent revis from playing against us in the future and right now we cant get good value for him.
It helps the Jets to refuse to trade Revis as long as he is under contract unless the Jets get an offer that can't be refused. The Jets can easily afford to wait for the right offer if that is what it comes down to. Revis is great, the question is whether anybody is going to agree to give him Aso money. 15Mil + seems like a pretty hefty price for even a shutdown CB w/one good season under his belt. Its probably pretty easy to figure this out - What teams are there that are stupid enough to pay Revis more than Aso? Washington obviously. Who are their trade worthy CBs? Hall & Rogers Who are their trade worthy DLs? Haynesworth Do they have a 1st Rd. pick in 2011? WTFK I might think about Hall plus a First Rounder. Not interested in Haynesworth + a 1st given Albert's recent issues.
The Jets cannot force Revis to play for them like that. Treating a player that way is going to discourage other players from signing with them and eventually force the NFLPA to step in with a lawsuit or at least a threat of litigation to protect one of their members. That's arguable, but to say that the Jets cannot get good value for Revis is a stretch. They have the potential to pull at least a first and a second for them, maybe a first and a starter. Bahahahahahahaha!!!!
Also Revis has no trade value. No team wants the rights to him. Cuz then he will bitch with them. And no team will pay him the money he expects. So a team would be crazy to trade for him, unless they are prepared to pay. Also that team must have value of some sort for a trade which is also unlikely.
They wouldn't do this because if they did it and didnt play him he would no doubt challenge the NFL's rules under restraint of trade labour laws and probably win as it would be ridiculous to say to a guy "you cannot work (even if they are paying him a shit ton of money to do so) and cannot move somewhere else" and no-one (from the owners) in the NFL would want to see that rule lost. BTW if anyone wants to teach me a lesson by paying me $7m a year to sit on my ass and do nothing - go right ahead.
