Now that, in my mind, the "other" contract issue is going nowhere...who thinks it's time to start talking to Mangold and Harris? I think it's time and would go a loooonnnggg way to solidifying the "team" attitude and show some love and reward those men that put their personal things aside and showed to camp. THAT is what I would do. Do any of our capologists know what the going rate is for a top center and let's say a top 15 linebacker?? I think that is where you start. It sends a message to the team that we realize we can't appease the lunatic and his management team over there...but here, we can take care of our other men. BEFORE the season. If I'm a player that just solidifies how much of an "island" the other guy is on. Let's get this thread rolling for "show some love" to Mangold and Harris...THIS season! The two of them combined won't even touch what MEvis is asking for so I say pull the trigger. That let's us focus on the one or two 1yr. free agents we'll have to lock up next year or the year after. What sayest thou?? Harris & Mangold in 2010!!!! Peace! The Mezz
The Jets are not going to lock up two of the most expensive players on the team without knowing what the next CBA will look like. That would be gross negligence on their part.
I don't think Tanny will deviate from the Revis situation at this point in time or the near future. Besides....he's already stated that Mangold and Harris's contracts won't be addressed till next offseason.
Ughhhh....a man can dream can't he...and IF they were willing to "lock up" MEvis then they should be in a position to "lock up" two players who won't combine to what he wants. Period.
I don't know my man...how much more can they focus on this situation. It almost seems futile in it's attempts. ce la vie....
c'est la vie is what i think you're going for not trying to be a typo nazi... i've spelt it horribly worse in the past. just an fyi
How do you know that Harris and Mangold won't demand Revis money? If the Jets open negotiations with them who the hell knows what will happen. That's a risk they're definitely not going to take right now. Mangold and Harris are fine with waiting until the end of the season when things become clearer, so there's no incentive for the Jets to jeopardize a season just because you think it might help team chemistry, which is fine by the way.
Sorry, but I think Mangold and Harris should get their new deals now too. If Revis gets anything this year, it's going to be without regard for a new cap, so blaming the CBA situation for not signing them is smoke and mirrors.
I really think Tanny wants to get the big deal done first so he knows what he has to work with. He obviously needs more freedom with the size and structure with the Revis deal. If the negotiations end with that one, then I can see him doing it.
this. I can't see Tanny starting up negotiations with 2 other core players....while the Revis situation is in a deadlock.
There is no reason to do anything w/Harris or Mangold now before the new CBA is in place. There is further no reason to do anything w/Harris or Mangold while the Revis situation is being addressed. Its funny that some here don't get these simple realities.
Why is it a "simple reality?" I don't think it'll happen just because neither player seems to be a big problem, and Revis is more important to the team's success than Harris. Mangold is arguable. If they decided to give Mangold a new contract, I'd have no problem with it. I don't want to let him go. No CBA didn't prevent the Jets from signing D'Brick long-term.
The D'Brick deal actually cleared cap space for the next 2 years, making it easier to sign the other 3. Those guys will do the opposite.
I think we should lock up David Harris long term before he goes out & puts up another All-Pro caliber season (he was on the AP 2nd team). If he does it again, we'll have to pay him top LB $$. We already know Mangold has to be the highest paid center in the NFL, so we can wait on that. Revis? -- who knows where this is going.
Still, it's a big risk to go into next offseason with both Mangold and Harris UFAs. We can franchise one, and I think we can transition tag the other, but we still have to get deals done.
im absolutely rooting for harris to have a great season, but you're right, he can only fly under the radar for so long. he's poised to have a great year this year, and especially if we go far into the playoffs, letting him become a free agent could be dangerous. he could take us for a ton of money, or worse still sign somewhere else.
Exactly. As far as I'm concerned, the Revis contract is the one that can wait because it appears to be most dependent upon the terms of the new CBA. Mangold will probably get the 1 year franchise tag after this season.
