Not that I really agreed with the move (I thought he should have left Moseley in), but Joba's been throwing the ball much better lately, and gives up fewer dingers than Moseley. Seeing as how a home run is really the only way that game gets tense again, I understand the logic, especially if Girardi thought Moseley was looking gassed, or that he didn't want the Sox to get a fourth look at Moseley.
According to Suzyn Waldman, "everybody" was saying Beltre would hit 50 homers this season. Considering he's only once topped 26 homers in 12 previous seasons, and considering no one in the majors has hit 50 in either of the last two seasons, I'm a little skeptical of that claim.
ARod grounds out softly to SS like it's a bodily function. This guy has looked so fucking weak at the plate at times this year, his hip has to be bothering him or something.
There isn't a person here that would put together a less competitive AB against Lester than Granderson.
I'm certainly not trying to absolve Grandy of blame here, but Lester showed in that at bat why he's an ace. 3 fastballs right on the corner, and then a sweeping curve--Granderson never had a chance. Loading the bases with no outs and not getting a run is unbelievably frustrating. Especially because Thames could not have come closer to tying the game.
Tex just obliterated a Bard fastball. 2-1. I'll take my chances down one against Papelblown any day of the week.
I quite enjoyed listening to Michael Kay freaking out that Papelbon was coming into the game, praising Francona for going to his best pitcher. The fact is, Papelblown is the 3rd best pitcher to take the mound for Boston today.
pitchout, but Posada with another bad throw. He just cannot throw out baserunners. Boston can commiserate, because their catchers haven't been throwing anyone out, either. Yep. Really, who is scared of Papelbon anymore?
Games where Posada and V-Mart are catching are borderline surreal. The only matchup in baseball where Posada is clearly the better defensive catcher.
