Rex seems to agree with me on that point. But please, don't listen to what I have to say, that'll just waste precious seconds while you try and order a Drew Coleman authentic jersey.
I listen to what you you have to say. I listen to what everybody has to say. Your problem is that you don't want to listen to what I have to say. If you did, you would realize that I'm right about Gholston and the Gholston haters. He is by all accounts a class act and the haters are nuts. If you are against Jets fans supporting the team, then go right ahead with that nutty perspective and keep fantasizing about drew coleman jerseys if thats what makes you happy. Hopefully Vernon does well. It would be cool to seem him come around and develop into another excellent member of this D. For some reason rooting for Vernon to do well is considered a bad thing by a few of the haters. I couldn't care less about that kind of negative baloney. I have been a fan for over 40 years and I have always rooted for all the Jets players to play well and to not get injured. If you think that somehow makes me a bad fan, I view that as more your problem than it is mine. K?
That's great. You can go cheer for him while he's in church and I'll go cheer for someone who plays football.
TGG is about intelligent discussion and analysis of the team. It's not a support group for the underachieving. We criticize Gholston because it is warranted. If you can't recognize the difference between that and being a chronic darksider then maybe you should stay off the internet.
Everyone wants all the Jets players to do well, and everyone criticizes players who fail to do so. Even you. I'll leave the Sanchez bashing from last fall out of it since I had forgotten about it prior to the rehashing over the past few days, but a quick search for "tackles" (looking for Gholston criticism) brought up this one on Rhodes: I'm not criticizing you for making this statement. Far from it. We were ALL critical of Rhodes. Insisting that VG has been a bust thus far doesn't mean people aren't hopeful for him to turn a corner and have SOME success with the position switch. It simply means that people are tired of seeing his lack of production on the field.

This is reassuring news. If Gholston is even a little bit good this season, our defense will be better than ever.
So far Gholston has 3 sacks today. But it's only practice, just ask Clowney. Anyway, I only have a problem with a small handful of posters who post stupidity like "Gholston will never be good! I hope he gets cut!" because how does exactly does that help the team? I'm no Clowney fan because I think he sucks, but I'd love for him to suddenly learn how to make a football move downfield and get seperation. That's better for the team. Considering our lack of depth on the DL, Gholston working out at end would be huge.
I agree, and it's not like he's going up against a inferior OL. I know it's just practice, but he's got to start somewhere.
If Gholston is productive this year...i'll be the first to eat a shit sandwich. I don't like criticizing our own players, albeit, Gholston deserved all the critcism he's received thus far. All i ever wanted was to see a return on investment with this guy....I hope he finally starts earning his fat paycheck this season.
Bottom line on Gholston is that the Jets are expecting next to nothing from him this year which is why they signed Jason Taylor. Any production at all will be a huge bonus. If he plays anywhere close to the level that was expected when they drafted him, it's scary to think how good this Defense would be.
Right Iggy. I wouldn't think you would criticize me for making a fair comment about Rhodes poor performance. And I am not criticizing anybody who makes a fair comment on Vernon's football playing. I am talking about the haters. One difference between Rhodes and Vernon is that Rhodes acted like a jerk at times and he failed to tackle and avoided contact. Vernon has been a team player and a hard worker. I just don't think Vernon deserves the shit that he gets from the haters on here.
Define productive? Because even if he turns out to make a little bit of an impact I expect a mouth full of shit. Not like any of us are expecting anything from Gholston anyway.
I'm not expecting him to put up R.Seymour type numbers.....but i expect him to contribute. Given what he's done thus far in his 2 year career....the bar is set pretty low.
Right. A start is a start. And given that this is his last chance, he needs to hit the ground running. I don't see a reason for someone like yourself to eat shit if he pans out. He has deserved criticism. As I said, I've admitted he's let me down too. Those looking for ROI on Gholston aren't the people I have an issue with. He's been mostly useless so far. The key is, will he prove that he was simply a round peg being forced into a square hole all this time? I believe that DE is a round hole and that he'll fit there. The one thing I try to remind everyone of though is that we're never going to feel like this rookie contract was worthwhile. He would have to make the Pro Bowl this year for anyone to even remotely feel like that, and I doubt that even if he had an amazing year as an end that he'd make the Pro Bowl. Not on a defense where he'll be outshined by Revis, Jenkins, Harris, Cromartie, and possibly 3-4 other guys. The key to determining his success this year will be the statistics of the linebackers playing behind him. If they're getting sacks/pressures/hurries/batted passes/fumble recoveries etc, then you know Gholston had a good year and has found his position.
6 sacks. While that's not the goal of his position, it's where the physical talent he brings sets the bar. I'll take 6.5 as the over.
The line i bolded from your post, Alio...is what i'm hanging my hat on. And based on some of the recent reports out of TC....he's fitting in quite nicely at DE. For all the shit-talking I've done against Gholston and his putrid effort.....i have to remind myself "This is now Gholston's 3rd season".....when players start to pay dividends. I will be watching him closely this year...in the hopes he pans out in his new role.
The Jets should have acquired David Carr. That may have possibly brought out the kill rage in Gladys the way it did against the Giants last year.
The Jets Stream: I'm really surprised Taylor and/or Pace isn't on the four man line as a speed rusher. I think we'll see Jenkins come off the field and DeVito slide inside, opening up a spot for Gholston/Pace/Taylor.
